Today’s Scripture: John 9:39, NIV- “Jesus said, “For judgment I have come into this world, so that the blind will see and those who see will become blind.”
It is Jesus who opens our blind eyes and blinds what we think we can see. It may sound weird, but I am praising God and thankful for my ignorance and my blind eyes. Hang with me for just a couple of minutes.
I cannot tell you how many mornings I thank Jesus for coming to earth and taking those stripes for me. I thank Jesus for teaching us how to pray and desire above all prayers to pray as Jesus did with the Father. I have asked Jesus to allow me to experience His alone time with God.
For months now I have lost control of my prayer times with a spiritual connection I cannot understand or describe. Spiritual vibrations are the best way I can describe it. I do my best to trust these “prayers” over my own. I only ask that God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit are filling me with His kingdom and will, even though I am blind to what is going on.
I love going to the Word of God after these prayers and I am amazed and filled with joy when I read God’s Word and see things I do not recall ever seeing before. This morning is such an example. After letting go and letting God pulsate with His Spirit within me this morning, I turned to John 10:10 as I am studying through the scriptures as they are listed in Celebrate Recovery.
John Baker and Rick Warren used The Living Bible translation of John 10:10, “Jesus, said, “My purpose is to give life in all its fullness.”” Many of us have grown up with the NIV translation which puts it this way, “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” The KJV translation states it this way, “The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.”
I do want to live in the fullness and abundance of Jesus, don’t you? Reading backwards to get a grasp of why Jesus was saying these things to the Pharisees, I read John 9:39 in a way that I do not ever recall reading it. “Jesus said, “For judgment I have come into this world, so that the blind will see and those who see will become blind.”” (NIV)
We have all said, “I was blind but now I see.” But how many of us consider that Jesus also came to blind what we think we can see?
It is hard for us to grasp that Jesus was with God in the beginning yet when He came to earth it was His practice to get alone and pray with the Father. Why Jesus went to the Father is why we should. What Jesus needed from God, we need. Do we think God needs what we can reveal? We must go blindly and without the limitations of our understanding. We do not need to waste our time with God with the laundry list of our needs. Matthew 6:8 says, “Your Father knows what you need before you ask him.”
Let us go to God seeking the communion and Spirit of Jesus. He still opens the eyes of the blind and blinds those of us who think we can see. Let us only look to please God as Jesus did.
Today’s Prayer: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
