Today’s Scripture: Isaiah 65:12 ESV- I will destine you to the sword, and all of you shall bow down to the slaughter, because, when I called, you did not answer; when I spoke, you did not listen, but you did what was evil in my eyes and chose what I did not delight in.
Freedom of choice is deceiving. If I desire all the freedom in the world I get and do what the world provides. Living a life like there is no other choice really seems to be where real change takes place.
An addict must choose sobriety. A parent protects their children by eliminating choices. A successful business chooses it’s mission statement. Yet, like selfish children, we want to be the master of our choices.
Contrary to my desires, I am eliminating choices. Like a child with a belly ache because they were allowed to choose all the candy they desired, I long for fewer choices. I am no different than these people in Isaiah’s day. I am a lousy chooser. God doesn’t want only my words of choosing Him, He wants me to only choose what He delights in.
Now that is freedom IN choice instead of freedom OF choice. I choose God’s delights.
Have you ever been fatigued by life’s choices?
Today’s Prayer: Father God, forgive me for choosing my selfish desires over Your delights. I need You Father to be my only choice. I choose You and Your delights. LORD, I am asking for Your strength as I do not possess it without You. Convict me and change me to stick to my one true choice. Amen
