Today’s Scripture: And the chiefs of the Levites: Hashabiah, Sherebiah, and Jeshua the son of Kadmiel, with their brothers who stood opposite them, to praise and to give thanks, according to the commandment of David the man of God, watch by watch Nehemiah 12:27 ESV
In Nehemiah 12:8 we are given names of those “in charge of songs of thanksgiving”. In our verse for today in verse 27 David had commanded them to give thanks watch by watch. They lived in thanksgiving.
It was somebody’s job, at all times, to be singing songs of praise and thanksgiving. What are you doing on your watch? In addition to those in charge, in verse 40 we are told there were choirs of those who gave thanks.
Certainly everyone had their own jobs to do but those of us called to sings songs of thanksgiving have a responsibility to sing. In verse 43 we are told they rejoiced with great joy.
I do rejoice with great joy and I have the responsibility to sing. Whatever job you have been given, be in charge. On your watch, do what you have been called to do with thanksgiving. Hopefully you will hear the songs of this great choir to lift you up and encourage you.
Can you hear the choir of thanksgiving?
Today’s Prayer: Our Father, thank You for the responsibilities You have given me. Thank You for giving me a voice to sing Your thanksgivings. LORD help me to be forever mindful of singing thanksgivings for others. I pray LORD, others will be lifted during their watch by the songs of thanksgiving You have given me. I live in thanksgiving and sing Your eternal songs. Amen

To me, there’s just nothing like giving thanks to our Lord–it gives me joy, makes me feel those holy goosebumps of intimacy with Him. I wish there were someone keeping count of how often I thank Him throughout the day—oh yeah, there is–The Father! Bless you BIG!

One of the amazing things to me is that God so highly extreme the singing of His praises. These are not just songs sung to fill time before the sermon. Praise is viewed as powerful and important ministry.
