Today’s Affirmation: The truth that abides in me will be with me forever.
Such comfort in “forever”. Some things we are living today are only here for a season. The truth and love of Jesus will be in us forever. Some pain we are enduring today we will be glad to see leave but there are those we love and things we hold dear that will leave us or abandon us. Leave not doubt they will leave. This daily affirmation comes from 2 John 1:2 “because of the truth, which lives in us and will be with us forever.”
John says this truth is love. Each person has to choose what they believe is the truth. As for me, I have chosen to believe the Gospel in which John is speaking of here. The new gospel of Jesus and the love of Jesus. John’s focus is on LOVE. In 2 John 5, John is pleading to remind us that from the beginning the truth of Jesus was for us TO LOVE ONE ANOTHER.
THIS IS THE LOVE WE WALK… (2 JOHN 6). Do we walk in it? …John says we should walk in it. That is convicting me today. Just walk in His love. I am not trying to beat you up with the truth. Just sharing what I believe. You choose yours. I will love you any way. I am not here to debate the Law of Moses or any of the other laws with you. As for me, I choose the love of Jesus. I pray I let it live and abide in me. That I will walk in it.
John warns us of the deceptions that will be thrown at us. There will be debate over the other gospels of man and the laws of man. This should be about what abides IN us. What do I reflect today? Is there a love within me that will be reflected or a letter of the law and man made rules. Yes the law is good and meant to protect us but these are OUTSIDE of us. The truth, the love is IN us. Can’t take it from me, can’t lose it, it will not abandon me. I may lose my physical body but what’s living inside of me will never, ever leave.
- Do you find peace in knowing you have something you can never ever lose? Do you believe that?
- As a church do we reflect this love or law?
- What can we do today to assure we “walk in love”?
- Do we convince people of this gospel by showing what the law says or by showing the love of Jesus?
Would the world be a different place if we just walked the love of the new gospel? I know, these are just rose colored glasses. But for me, today, I choose to walk in it.
May we let this love live in us….forever.

This has been probably one of my greatest sins. Not walking in Love and not teaching my Children more about His Love alone. I always gravitate toward the Law. Follow the Rules, Walk that Chalk Line, Follow the Straight and Narrow Path, Straight is the Gate and Narrow is the Way that leadeth to Life and Wide is the Gate and Broad is the Path that leadeth to destruction!!! I have preached that far more than the “Love” to myself and my children.
Thanks for the reminder that He is LOVE. I surely need to focus on that more. THAT is his greatest gift and it is called Amazing Grace!
Thanks Tom.
Have a great day!

Totally with you Velvet. May we let His love live in us and may we reflect that over the law. So right, many times the hardest place to show this is at home. May we make this walk one step at time and accept His amazing grace and just look to the walk ahead learning from the road we have travelled. Have wonderful day in the mountains!
Hi tomraines,
I like this idea of Love. For sure Love is a part of a christians walk with God and in this world toward others. Could the world have been a different place if only christians had walked in more Love? I don’t think so. It might be a better place than it is now, but sin has power in the lives of people who have not grabbed ahold of salvation.
it seems to me that the Bible says that Jesus did not come to bring peace to the earth. I believe this is in the gospels. Jesus says mother will be against daughter-in-law, father against son, son against father, mother against daughter, daughter against mother. There will be persecutions, strife, and conflict with the World and in the World.
We can see that the devil gathers together a huge army at the end of days to fight against good. That tells me there will be many people who are still against God and against the people of God. The devil is the ultimate deceptor. Unless people fight against him they will be deceived by him.
We have the Spirit and the Word. We need to learn to use them effectively in our lives and in the church.
In the church we want so badly to be socially acceptable. We want a church that anyone can comfortably attend. Well, we have that. This strategy has not produced maturity in the people of God. This strategy has produced unmature offspring unable to appropriate the provisions of God in their lives. This ‘be acceptable’ strategy has produced worldly christians and kept many people happy with the ‘milk bottle’.
No, I don’t believe the Law is the answer to this. The Law will kill and destroy. It creates legalism and works to try and earn a right place with God. God wants our love for him to be the motivator. The Bible says that Faith works by Love. Love is critical. We need to be asking God for this kind of Love.
hi tomraines,
I believe we can lose the truth we have if we don’t guard it and protect it from doubt and unbelief.
The story of the talents in the gospels indicates that a lack of use will not produce fruit. The master said why didn’t you at least put your talent in the bank, and I could have received interest gained by it?
I think we take things far too much for granted in our christian lives. This walk requires some fighting and some risk. The Bible says that we aren’t fighting against flesh and blood but we certainly have a fight on our hands, even to move forward in our walk with God.
Linda, no doubt that we have to stand on fighting against evil. Some how we humans think we know what this fight looks like. I am not sure I do. The pharisees were willing to kill for their view of who the messiah was going to be. The Jewish people did not accept Jesus as the messiah because they were expecting a mighty warrior to defeat the enemy and redeem them. Jesus came as a baby and not as a mighty warrior. Does God Hate Sin? Yes, will He defeat it? Yes. Did Jesus shoot Zacchaeus out of the tree or call him down and eat with Him? I honestly do not believe we can conceive in our limited ability to know the true essence of God. We turn to judgement and fighting before we should. If we showed more compassion and love then this should NOT be mistaken as weakness. The meek shall inherit the world. Loving others is not weakness. Jesus was not weak. He did not beat people over their heads with His gospel or His law. He told them to go and sin no more. He shared love and truth. People are not ready to accept our truth if we act just like the world. I would die for my belief in Him and tell everything that I have seen and heard. I will pray that all mankind would come to accept Jesus as the only way to the father but I have to be aware of timing. Jesus communicated with many people and I know the most angry He ever was was with the self righteous. We can love on non-believers and share our faith. As John said in this passage. Love one another. Convince them out of love and firmness. Be bold and courageous to tell His story. Do not be luke warm. We do not have to me mamby pamby but empathetic to where they are and let them know what we have seen and heard. Our experience in who Jesus is to us and what He has done in our lives. Then we can share the promises He has for them. To live life to the full. I am thankful that we are all part of the same body. We need different people with different gifts and strengths. We use all of our spiritual gifts together to produce the right fruit. Thank you for the great dialogue and thought provoking perspectives. We can spur each other on to do all kinds of good works for His kingdom.
Hi tomraines,
Thank you tom, for your encouragment in this blog addressed to me. I am thankful too for the Body of Christ. It is good that we appreciate one another and give place to one another in the various circumstances and situations that we may be charllenged with in the body of believers.
Just recently I was feeling like I needed encouragement. Thank you for it here.
I believe in this encouragement from you I have received a confirmation to keep going.
