Just step out. Come on you can do it, step on out there. What are we afraid of? Must we know the end before we take the first step? It is great to know that no matter where we step we can never travel outside of God’s hearing range. Once again my search for affirmations has taken me back to Psalms where David’s words once again hit me right where I am. Right here in my little corner of the world, right in line with a conversation I had with God this very morning.
I was directed to this passage today from the Celebrate Recovery Participant Guide One. John Baker uses 40:12 to show that it is ok to start admitting our lives had become unmanageable. David did in this verse. But I am getting ahead of myself.
In Psalm 40:2 David states: “He also brought me up out of a horrible pit, Out of the miry clay, And set my feet upon a rock, And established my steps. (NKJ)
I like the God’s Word Translation: He pulled me out of a horrible pit, out of the mud and clay. He set my feet on a rock and made my steps secure.
Have you ever been in a horrible place? David says we was, he had waited patiently on the LORD (verse one) and the LORD had pulled him out, set him on a rock and made his steps secure. David indicates here he wasn’t pulled up just to sit on the rock but to get up and start moving knowing his steps would be secure.
Do you ever feel you need to go somewhere but you are not sure where? You know you should be moving in a new direction but you are unsure of where or how so you just sit on the rock that you know? Why do we do that? Is it lack of a clear picture, fear or lack of faith? Forget about it, just keep stepping out there knowing you are secure in the LORD. Wherever you travel He is there to help you and even lift you up when you fall.
Isn’t the security of God awesome? Yes, I want to praise the LORD. Which is exactly what David says in verse three: “He has put a new song in my mouth— Praise to our God;” (NKJ) A new song of confidence and faith in the greatness of our God. How did you get where you are? By the ever present hand of the Almighty God. Yes, rejoice and be glad for God is great!!
I even chuckled this morning as once again God hit me over the head with a message that has been resounding in my head and was confirmed by my friend Donald this morning as he commented on a previous blog. Psalm 40:8 “I delight to do Your will, O my God, And Your law is within my heart.” David just confirms to make sure we delight ourselves in the will of God. I want to step in that direction.
David also shares that this will not be easy and mainly due to our own sinful nature. In Psalm 40:12 For troubles without number surround me; my sins have overtaken me, and I cannot see. They are more than the hairs of my head, and my heart fails within me. (NIV) Yes there will be days like that where we can’t see beyond our own troubles. Yesterday I was in Psalm 6 and David said He prayed to God in the morning and “looked up” and looked to God in expectation. Today in chapter 40 he says he has so many sins, more than the hairs on his head so that he cannot even look up!
The good news, no the GREAT news is, once again, David reminds us that although we may have misstepped the LORD is our deliverer He is our helper! In Psalm 40:17 As for me, I am poor and needy, but the Lord takes thought for me. You are my help and my deliverer; do not delay, O my God! (ESV) Yes, the LORD is great. In Him we can place our trust. We can rejoice and be glad knowing He is our helper and our deliverer and gives us the firm foundation and all the security we will ever need. Do you have a step you have wanted to make? Step on out there; you are secure in the LORD. Do you have any other thoughts on Psalm 40?

Christian Affirmations 4 Life
It seems that also we sometimes are content in a bad place because it familiar. Even tho in the mud we know what to expect.
Sober, that is a good point and such a sad way to live isn’t it? Been there done that; in fact in some areas I am STILL doing that. I pray we step out boldly and courageously into the lands He has called us to. May we be content in His will but not in the mud… I am thinking the evil one loves it when we become content in the bad places rather than fulfilling a Godly purpose! Thanks for sharing. please don’t be a stranger.
What a blessing this is. A great start for the new year. We all need to be reminded that God is there when we”re in our own “bogged down” situation. Thanks, Mother
Thanks Mom, glad you could get online today!
