Today’s Affirmation: The Lord is my help and my shield.
We all have things we know we need help with. We and others also have needs we are not aware. The Lord is our help when we do not even know it. He is our shield and protects us from things we can not fathom. This daily affirmation comes from Psalm 115:9. O Israel, trust in the LORD; He is their help and their shield.
Once again in Psalm 115:11 David expands those beyond just God’s people in Israel but to any who fear and trust in the Lord. “You who fear the LORD, trust in the LORD; He is their help and their shield.”
In hindsight we are often amazed at how “lucky” we were. If we hadn’t misplaced our keys then we would have been at that intersection just a few moments earlier and been in an accident. We had a casual conversation with a friend or even a complete stranger that later proves to be the perfect alliance to save a life or make a difference. Luck? Do you fear and trust Him? Do you believe He has helped you or protected you without your comprehension?
Yes, He does. Have faith in it. You doubt it? Just look in the rearview mirror of your life and in the lives of others. Yes, He helps us and protects us.
The preceding chapters of Psalm 115 show the results of us worshipping the idols and the creations of our own understanding. Interesting these idols..
- They have mouths, but they cannot speak; They have eyes, but they cannot see;
- They have ears, but they cannot hear; They have noses, but they cannot smell;
- They have hands, but they cannot feel; They have feet, but they cannot walk; They cannot make a sound with their throat.
- Those who make them will become like them, Everyone who trusts in them.
Will become like them. No voice, no vision, so senses, no action. If we choose to worship the Lord over these idols. He will help us with all of these and even more.
- Can you see where God has helped you or protected you in your past?
- Do you have faith today that He will help and protect you?
- Do you have more faith in what you can control with your own hands or mind over the unseen?
May we fear and have trust in the Lord so that we have our voice, our vision, our compassion and the strength to act. May we trust and become more like Him.

Tom: I refuse to use the word “lucky” or coincidence or “just happened” in a situation where I know God has moved in. In fact, unless it is to make a point, I have ruled those words out of my vocabulary completely. Thanks for the encouragement today.
Thanks Bill! I caught myself this weekend as my 75 yr old mother ran off the road and totaled her car, how “lucky” she was. She corrected me that it wasn’t luck. A couple of times I said it again….not luck. So thankful for Him and His angels that go before us. Thanks for your encouragement and I am still praying for miracles for your church growth and for God to make the way.

Powerful stuff there this morning Tom! No, I don’t believe in “accidents” or “being lucky”, but I have been guilty of putting more hope in people than in God, and what a disaster that is/was/and always will be! People and things will always “let us down” at some point ~ putting on foot on The Rock is the only way to assure our footing. When we take our eyes off our Heavenly Father, Jesus, or The Cross….we begin to put other things before Him (even unintentionally) and make idols of them. I am learning that my organized way of thinking (to some ~ control) can be an idol just as much as possessions, people, jobs, etc. It takes a very conscious effort to break that cycle and put Him first in every thought, word, or deed and there are days I stumble again and again. Thank you for the wonderful visual of becomming “like them”……

I will be accepting His mercy, grace and HELP this morning!
thanks Mrs ahhh wiggins…sorry but I laughed so hard about that it really struck a nerve. Thanks for your feedback. You are sooo right that we He will help us and protect us from any of those things we turn to over Him.
I had never seen that “we become like them” until this morning. Thanks for letting me know it impacted you like it did me!
