Today’s Scripture: Colossians 3:1, NKJV- “If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God.”
To rise above we must look above. When we look to ourselves or other things of this earth we find what we already have. It is obvious that we have a mess. Deceit, dishonesty, brokenness, and bewilderment abound. There is no shortage of desperation.
However, when we stop and simply pause to look beyond the madness to the God and Christ of heaven, we find hope and peace. As Paul enlightens us in Colossians we come to know the mysteries of Jesus Christ. The weird thing is that when we look and seek the things above, we find our spiritual eyes.
Hang with me. Try something with me now, close your eyes and look to heaven behind your closed lids and say God, I am seeking You now. Allow the Spirit within yourself to commune with God for a few seconds. Resist the urge to speak even silently. Practice this and I have experienced that we do find the Spirit of God, the presence of Christ, and the power of God.
Here in this place is where we find “the glorious riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.” Colossians 1:27, NIV. As the New Living Translation puts it, “this is the secret: Christ lives in you.” This secret or mystery of Christ living in us is revealed when we seek or look above, and somehow, we find what is within.
If we simply look within, we find what we have within which is not heavenly. However, when we look to the God of heaven, His Son seated to His right somehow is revealed within us. In experiencing Christ within us we also come to know the Spirit of hope of the gospel of Jesus Christ just as Christ promised us.
Jesus Christ had the fullness of God within Him as we are told in Colossians 2:9, “For in Christ lives all the fullness of God in a human body.” (NLT) The good news is that “you have been made complete in Christ, who is the head over every ruler and authority.” Colossians 2:10 (BSB).
We are made complete in Jesus Christ. The fullness of God was inside of Jesus’ body. Because of Jesus’ sacrifice for us, we now have His Helper the Holy Spirit within our body to commune and connect us with God. Will you look to God above today and allow the Spirit to commune within you?
Today’s Prayer: Heavenly Father, please teach us to look to You. Thank You for Your Son Jesus Christ who is Your fullness in the flesh. Thank You Jesus for dying for our sins and for leaving us with the Holy Spirit to help us look and live from above. Continue to teach us Lord Jesus. Continue Holy Spirit to guide our hearts and our minds in Christ Jesus in whose holy name we do pray. Amen.
