Today’s Scripture: Ecclesiastes 5:1, KJV- “Keep thy foot when thou goest to the house of God, and be more ready to hear, than to give the sacrifice of fools: for they consider not that they do evil.”
Solomon teaches us about life and death in Ecclesiastes. The wisest and richest king of all time gave us his conclusions after studying life. I am spiritually, mentally, and emotionally exhausted after reading this entire book this morning.
Solomon’s bottom line to life is to Fear God and keep His commandments as he told us in Ecclesiastes 12:13 “Now all has been heard; here is the conclusion of the matter: Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the duty of all mankind.” (NIV)
We cannot even do these things without being very intimate with God all the time. I can see how Solomon felt when he expressed Ecclesiastes 12:8 “Everything is meaningless,” says the Teacher, “completely meaningless.” (NLT)
Solomon brought us great teachings with great meaning in Ecclesiastes. I have saved over three hundred affirmations from these twelve chapters. An example is Ecclesiastes 4:12 as the Key scripture for Day 5 of re:generation’s groundwork entitled “You are not alone.” It is good advice to surround ourselves with others in our recoveries and life. “Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.” (NIV)
Solid advice for sure yet after considering all of Solomon’s wisdom this morning I could not forget the five words as only the King James Version phrased Ecclesiastes 5:1; “be more ready to hear.”
Ecclesiastes 5:2 expresses that when we are more ready to hear, we must talk less. “Do not be rash with your mouth, And let not your heart utter anything hastily before God. For God is in heaven, and you on earth; Therefore let your words be few.” (KJV)
In conclusion, to do and be who God intends for us to be, we must sit quietly with God and hear more. Are you more ready?
Today’s Prayer: Heavenly Father, I am more ready to hear You. Silence my mind, heart, and soul so I hear only You. Speak LORD, Your servant is listening. Amen.
