Today’s Scripture: Galatians 6:8, NLT- “Those who live only to satisfy their own sinful nature will harvest decay and death from that sinful nature. But those who live to please the Spirit will harvest everlasting life from the Spirit.
Most translations of Galatians 6:8 state that we should sow to the Spirit, so we reap the everlasting life of the Spirit. The seeds of the Spirit we plant today will live forever. We must be mindful and consistent with spreading the seeds of the Holy Spirit of God.
Paul already described the fruits of the Spirit that will grow in Galatians 5:22-23. “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.” (NKJV) To produce these fruits these are the seeds of the Spirit we should plant today.
According to Galatians 5:1, Jesus Christ set us free to live free. To remain free, we must live to please the Spirit. Living with the Spirit protects us from those attempting to deceive us back into slavery. Galatians 6:7 warns, “Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap.”
When we sow what the Spirit gives us, we plant seeds for eternity. The Spirit of God is our Master gardener, protector, and guide. We are not to compare the seeds we have with others. We can praise God for the seeds others have planted in us and into our environments.
Let us simply keep planting as Galatians 6:9 encourages us, “And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.” (NKJV) Although this world attempts to deceive us, let us remember as Paul in Galatians 6:14, “As for me, may I never boast about anything except the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ. Because of that cross, my interest in this world has been crucified, and the world’s interest in me has also died.” (NLT)
Let us live in the freedom of Jesus and live to please Him who the world has crucified. He rose and left us the Spirit to continue to live and plant everlasting seeds of the kingdom. These are the seeds of new creations and new people of God.
What seeds will you plant today?
Today’s Prayer: Father God, I am humbled and blessed by Your Spirit. Thank You LORD for loving me and covering me with Your Spirit. LORD, thank You for helping me live to please Your Spirit. Multiply the seeds You have given me to sow today. Please prepare the hearts and soil to produce Your fruits. In the name of Jesus Christ, we do pray and plant. Amen.
