Just show up and press play. Someone told me that was the secret to the popular P90X physical fitness program. Just make sure you show up every day and press play on your DVD player and you will get the results you desire in 90 days.
So how is your prayer life? Ever wondered what or how to say things to God? Here in Matthew 6:8 where this affirmation is taken: “Don’t be like them, for your Father knows exactly what you need even before you ask him!(NLT)
Jesus is telling us to just show up and press play. We are instructed to go to God but not to just repeat mindless words but to just show up in private and pray with Him.
We don’t need to worry about what we will ask. Here in Matthew 6 we are reminded that He knows exactly what we need. That is more than we know. We think we know what we need but our Creator God knows exactly what we need before we do.
Just ask Him to give you what you need today and He will. In 6:10 we are instructed to ask Him to give us our daily bread. He knows the bread we need to survive this day. Physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually, He knows exactly what we need. Just ask Him for it.
In 6:21 we are reminded: For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. Let’s decide as we begin each day that our treasure and our heart will be with God and trust in Him.
He will remind us that this day is about laying up treasures in Heaven instead of following the rules of the world to work all day to lay up treasures here on Earth that will just rust away or be stolen. He knows exactly what heaven is all about and we have to trust in Him.
As we pray in private may we be reminded of Matt. 6:24 that we can not serve two masters. May we dedicate each day as we pray to God in private that we want to serve only Him. We know we can not serve anyone or anything other than Him. He knows, just ask Him to keep your eyes, your mind and soul with Him. Just show up and ask Him to protect your eyes and your heart.
Lay out all your concerns to Him and He says not to worry. In verse 25 “Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing?” (NLT) Just leave your worries there in your private place right where you kneel. You showed up, God knows your worries and says leave them there at the alter with Him, don’t worry.
Just show up and praise this God. In Matt. 6:33 we are told “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Just show up seeking Him and His will and not asking for stuff and help for your worries. He knows all of these things. Spend the few moments you have in your secret place there on your knees to just seek Him and His kingdom.
Go ahead just show up and press play. Can you be spiritually fit? See where you are in 90 days of this exercise. God is so awesome to reveal Himself. But like P90X if we do not show up and press play we will not achieve the results as advertised.
