We will go to great lengths to hide our sins and our story in fear of consequences. In reality these efforts are what keep us captive. This affirmation comes from Proverbs 28:13. People who conceal their sins will not prosper, but if they confess and turn from them, they will receive mercy.
Dictionary.com defines “prosper” as: to be successful or fortunate, esp. in financial respects; thrive; flourish.
Proverbs is telling us that if we continue to hide our sins we will not thrive and flourish. So if we are not thriving what are we doing? Some antonyms are to: decline, fail, languish, lose, cease, hinder. Do those sound like consequences we want?
BUT, we are told if we will just confess and turn away from our sins we will find mercy and comfort. We are afraid of confession but in reality the consequences of NOT CONFESSING are much worse. We will decline, we will languish. It is a slow and painful process that will in the end strip us of all comfort.
Step 5 in Celebrating Recovery is to: Admit to God, to ourselves and to another human being the exact nature of our wrongs.
Just admit it and let the healing begin. May we all find the courage and vision to confront and confess our hurts, habits and hang-ups so we may begin to thrive and flourish.
We can do this and live and get out from under the weight of guilt, dishonesty and fear. Just confess whatever it is that holds us captive. Thank You God for Your mercy and Your comfort!
I pray the heaviness of secrecy; guilt and condemnation are lifted today. I pray we can be honest and feel confident enough to lay all things before God knowing He will offer us the mercy He promised versus the lies of the evil one who tries to convince us to hold them close.
May you find freedom today. Is there something you need to confess that is weighing you down? God is ready and pray for the right person to walk this road with you. Mercy is good.
