No matter the season. No matter what is going on today. God has put eternity in our hearts. Wherever we are today, it will pass. Whether it is a tough season or a joyous season, the time will change.
This affirmation is from Ecclesiastes 3:11: He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the hearts of men; yet they cannot fathom what God has done from beginning to end. (NIV)
Verse of 11 is coming off the famous lines we have heard but don’t recall them all. Beginning in Verse 1 There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven:
We look over so many things. Today the colon (:) is screaming at me. That’s right, I just read one of the most famous scriptures in the Holy Bible and my eyes have become fixated on the “:” I just did a Google search and found that grammar. ccc.edu and found an interesting definition: “Think of the colon as a gate, inviting one to go on:”
Go on through the gate of Ecclesiastes 3. Through this gate God spends seven chapters of giving us indications of “everything” that has a season, a time to:
- Born/die
- Planted/uprooted
- Kill/heal
- Tear down/build up
- Weep/laugh
- Mourn/dance
- Scatter/gather
- Embrace/refrain
- Search/give up
- Keep/throw away
- Tear/mend
- Silent/speak
- Love/hate
- War/peace
This list can’t certainly list EVERYTHING we will experience in the flesh. I am certain there is a purpose for this being seven verses but this list is just a partial of the many places you and I have been, are at currently and will be at some time. Yes, there will be a season. But through it all God is telling us He has placed ETERNITY on our hearts.
No matter where we are today, may we be reminded of that eternal perspective God has given us. May it keep us humble when we are in a good place and give us hope when we are not. I love, love, love that fact that He also says HE HAS MADE EVERYTHING BEAUTIFUL IN ITS TIME. Even the “bad” seasons will be made beautiful. These seasons too will be for the good of us, someone or something. Just beautifully.
So what’s behind your : today? :0, :), 🙁 ….May we look for the eternal perspective and keep the course with faith and hope that this season will pass and will be just beautiful.
