Today’s Affirmation: The Spirit has set me free.
What holds you captive? What things war in your flesh that rob you of joy? Do some things keep you under the weight of guilt?
Freedom is here. This affirmation is taken from Romans 8:2. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death. (NKJ)
This affirmation was found in just following the logic of Paul’s confession in Romans 7:18 where he said: I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. (NIV)
I really want to do good, but I just keep falling to my desires; my desires of the flesh. We all have these desires, these lusts that hold us captive.
Why is it that I feel so much relief that Paul, the man of God flat out admits that although he wants to do good, he just can’t do it? The secret is in the statement “IN MY SINFUL NATURE”. It is our nature to desire these things that hold us captive. GREAT NEWS. The answer is in the SPIRIT of Jesus Christ. That is where we find freedom from our flesh.
How? Try to keep your mind on things of the Spirit. Romans 8:5 For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. (NIV)
How? God I don’t know how. Good news once again, HE DOES. Paul even tells us this in 8:26: In the same way the Spirit also helps our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we should, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words; (NASB)
We don’t even have to know how to pray, how to ask. All we have to do is ask the Spirit to intervene for us. Turn our minds to the Spirit the best we can. Stop our minds from focusing on the flesh trying to keep us captive. Stop it, turn to the Spirit and cry out. Spirit of God set me free. Look to the Spirit, keep your mind there. Can you cry out?
There is freedom there. Turn you thoughts there. Thank you Jesus for your Spirit and the freedom. Please intercede for me Spirit of God when I am weak.
Thank you Spirit of God for setting me free!

Christian Affirmations 4 Life

Tom: I was set free from the power and drag of sin long ago through the blood of Christ. It is still a daily battle to pull the reigns of my life and give them to Jesus. However, I do cling to the Scripture that says “where the Spirit of the Lord is there is freedom.” I also cling to “the letter kills but the Spirit gives life.” Not much better than that. Good thoughts this morning.
Amen Bill. Daily and clinging bring the intimacy to life!Truly cherish the freedom and the love. Thank you for checking in!
A key to freedom…turning our minds to the Spirit…that very small but sometimes very hard discipline has saved me over and over again.
Every day I love freedom more than the day before…
Thank you Robin! True freedom. What a blessing that is so hard to describe.
