Today’s Affirmation: I stand at the crossroads and choose God’s path. Here I find rest for my soul.
Principal 1 in Celebrating Recovery states: “Realize I am not God. I admit that I am powerless to control my tendency to do the wrong thing and that my life is unmanageable.”
This is the Step 1 in the 12 step program. We admitted we were powerless over our addictions and compulsive behaviors, that our lives had become unmanageable.
Are you at a crossroad in your life where you have to choose which path to take? Is your life unmanageable? This affirmation is taken from Jeremiah 6:16.
This is what the LORD says:
“Stand at the crossroads and look;
ask for the ancient paths,
ask where the good way is, and walk in it,
and you will find rest for your souls.
But you said, ‘We will not walk in it.’ (Jer 6:16 NIV)
The people of Judah REJECTED this directive. At the crossroads, observe the old ways and the ways I showed your forefathers and choose to go that way and you will find rest for your souls.
Sorry God, think I will just choose this other path. Certainly that old way is outdated. I am too smart because I think I can see a new and more exciting way to go. Do we make similar choices as the people of Judah?
Keep reading Jeremiah 6. Choosing the other path can lead to a different result than expected and there will be “fear on every side” (Jer 6:25). Do you ever feel that way?? I remember when I was broken from my addictions and felt fear on every side. I am thankful God showed me His path and I have truly found rest for my soul. I must choose this path at every crossroad every moment of every day to stay on His path.
Are you standing at a crossroad with fear on every side? Choose God’s path. This is where you will find rest for your soul.
- Have you ever reached a crossroad where you just do not know what to do?
- Can you look around and see God’s ways of old? Can you see the example He gave us in His word?
- Do you want rest for your soul?
God I choose you today. Open my eyes to your ways and draw me near. This is my first step down your path. Grant me the courage, boldness and direction for my next step. I will read your word to follow your ways. Thank you for giving me rest for my soul.

Tom: I have stood at crossroads before. Some of my own making and some circumstances where God wants me to choose. I have become convinced that if I am choosing a path where God is involved, and I am choosing it with a pure motive, that even it turns out to be one that is dubious in its outcome, God will walk through me with it. I choose His way.

I just wanted to thank you for being obedient to the plan that God has for you. Your bloggs blessed me in so many ways and confirmed in me “God has a plan and I need to let go and let God”. Definitely, the Holy Spirit led me to your site yesterday. I read every affirmation from Saturday to the beginning of your blessing in April and found myself in tears often through out the day with yet another healing process underway. My Tom Raines and I were divorced over 10 years ago. We were married for 10 years and are blessed with two beautiful children. He like you suffers from alcoholism, but unlike you has not yet found the healing and conquering powers of God. He has lost his family, job and now his mind and health are showing the signs of years of abuse. I have spent the last 10 years healing from the wounds that being the partner and mother to the children of an alcoholic bring and praying for Gods healing powers for Tom. I found encouragement as you share your heart and parts of your testimony. I know that God has a plan and a purpose for Tom and I am standing firm on his promises. I am waiting with great joy to see the day that he too will be sharing his story of deliverance and fulfilling the purpose God has for him.

Wow, wow, wow. Cheri, I am so honored you stopped in and glad God brought you this way. How “strange” that you were married to a Tom Raines. I have been out of town and missed doing my blog last couple of days. I am just getting home and am praising God for your message. Please come back again some time and give me your feedback. I am certainly pausing to pray now that Tom is drawn to God and finds himself and His purpose through His addictions. You sound like a wonderful strong mother and former wife to have such a prayerful heart that Tom be delivered. I am praying for you Cheri and hope to hear back from you some time.
Amen
