Today’s Affirmation: God’s strength makes me complete.
In Paul’s second letter to the Corinthians he says he prays that they will become complete. This affirmation is a take away from 2 Corinthians 13:9. He actually rejoices in his own weakness in hopes the people of Corinth would become stronger. That they may be “made” complete.
What does it take for us to be “made” complete? Is that something I am doing or from an outside source? Like Paul, can we rejoice in our weaknesses? Instead of beating ourselves up over our own weaknesses may we see that this is where we find God and His strength.
“For when I am weak, then I am strong.” Paul had just written in 2 Corinthians 12:10. God’s strength is made perfect in our weakness.
Paul signs off in this second letter by saying: “farewell. Become complete.” How did he suggest starting doing that? In this early church he is asking them to “Be of good comfort, be of one mind, live in peace; and the God of love and peace will be with you.”
The final verse states all we need to be complete. The grace of Jesus, the love of God and the communion (fellowship and intimate communications) with the Holy Spirit will make us complete. I praise God that in my weakness I seek grace, love and the presence of the Holy Spirit. In my seeking I become complete.
- Can you praise God for your weaknesses today?
- Do you really believe that in your weaknesses you become complete instead of the world telling you to do good to be complete?
- What one thing can you accept from God today that makes you more complete?
Do you have a different take on 2 Corinthians 13:9? Let me know about it.
Thank you God for Your strength and for my weaknesses. Thank you for making me complete in Your love and Your Grace in communion with the Holy Spirit. I love you, please complete me.
