Today’s Scripture: 2 Samuel 5:10, NIV- “And he became more and more powerful, because the LORD God Almighty was with him.”
When we remember that the LORD God Almighty is with us, we do sense a renewed confidence in a power greater than ourselves. Other translations of 2 Samuel 5:10 say that we become greater and greater. Quite simply because of God we are more powerful and greater.
In 2 Samuel 5:2, the LORD said to David, “You will shepherd my people Israel, and you will become their ruler.” I have come to believe that when the LORD Almighty is with us, He gives us those He intends for us to shepherd too. Whether we are leading our children or others who God brings to us, His might makes us servant leaders.
How do we know who we are to shepherd? We should follow David’s example in 2 Samuel 5:19 when he inquired of the LORD. We can say thank You LORD Almighty for being with me. I am asking You where and with who You desire for me to share Your power.
Each time David considered going into battle with the Philistines He would inquire of God. We must always remember the source of our power. As the New Living Translation puts it in 2 Samuel 5:20, “The LORD did it!” I also like this version because it says, “the Lord who bursts through.”
We do not have to bang our heads against the wall. The LORD bursts through where He wants us to go. The LORD can be specific with us as He was in 2 Samuel 5:23, “Therefore David inquired of the LORD, and He said, “You shall not go up; circle around behind them, and come upon them in front of the mulberry trees.”
The best way to circle around people’s resistance and fears it to meet them where God intends. In 2 Samuel 5:24, “As soon as you hear the sound of marching in the tops of the poplar trees, move quickly, because that will mean the LORD has gone out in front of you to strike the Philistine army.” (NIV) When we are meeting people where they are we can trust that the LORD has gone out in front of us to burst through any walls.
Our power is not for us so we should be bold in the LORD and move quickly trusting in God’s will. Let us guard against our thoughts and fears to rise upon us as they are not of God. Although they seem very real, they are not. They are only False Evidence Appearing Real.
God is real and He is really with us. Will we trust this today?
Today’s Prayer: LORD God Almighty, thank You for being with us. Thank You LORD for being with me. I am praying now for Your desires for me. Show the way LORD. Please be specific with me as You were with Your servant David. I am trusting You LORD to burst through where You want me to go. Thank You LORD for Your power and greatness. In the name of Jesus Christ we do pray. Amen.
