Today’s Scripture: Matthew 4:1 ESV- Then Jesus was led up by the Spiritinto the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.
Most of us recall the story of Jesus being tempted in the desert, right? I think I overlooked the fact that He was led to this temptation by the Spirit of God. In the previous chapter the Spirit of God had just descended on Him from heaven like a dove and now he is leading him into the desert to be tempted by the devil.
Can we too trust that whatever temptations we have been led to also are to teach and prepare us? We need to be preparing and equipping ourselves to go. Because AFTER, Jesus fasted for forty days and forty nights, He was hungry. THEN the devil tempted Him with His hunger.
Jesus responded to the devil’s temptations with “it is written” preparations. As he had grown and matured, while he fasted and prayed he had studied and received the Words of God into His heart and mind to be prepared for these moments.
Are you preparing yourself to be led by the Spirit?
Today’s Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for the leading of Your Spirit. Thank You for Your written Word that prepares and protects us. Help us LORD to receive your Word and to know Your word so we can face and respond to all temptations because of what is written. Receive our fasts LORD and feed our souls with Your Spiritual food. Amen
