Is it enough for you? Exceeding abundant, overflowing, poured out abundantly, very great and abounded exceedingly are all ways various translations of the bible describe this grace of our Lord. MORE than abundant. Today’s affirmation can be found in 1 Timothy 1:14:
and the grace of our Lord was more than abundant, with the faith and love which are found in Christ Jesus. (NASB)
Why is it many times we can accept that God’s grace is sufficient for others but somehow think our own sin is worse? Do you think Paul was making a strong statement here that it is MORE than we can even believe. Exceeding abundant, that just sounds like a lot and it is.
In the following verse I always thought Paul was speaking of himself however this morning I have a different perspective. He wrote this verse for me and you. In verse 15 Paul says:
This is a trustworthy saying, and everyone should accept it: “Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners”–and I am the worst of them all. (NLT)
“I am the worst sinner in the world. “ We do seem to remember that part of the statement that Paul tells us. But that is not what he was saying about himself, you or me.
He said that “CHRIST JESUS CAME INTO THIS WORLD TO SAVE SINNERS.” of which I am the world’s biggest sinner. Paul said that this is a SAYING, something that we should all accept and say to ourselves. Although I am the chief of all sinners, Jesus came into the world to save me. I believe it is about an abundant heart of gratitude. Exceeding abundant heart of thanksgiving because of extreme sin and extreme grace. No matter where you feel you are on that spectrum His grace is more than sufficient.
There is an affirmation I missed this morning but like Paul says this would be a trustworthy saying that everyone should accept:
Christ Jesus came into the world to save me.
Can you say it?
