Today’s Scripture: A Prayer of David. Incline your ear, O LORD, and answer me, for I am poor and needy. Psalm 86:1 ESV
What?? Our ego fights this statement doesn’t it?! For those looking for “positive affirmations” this, on the surface, does not feel right but please hang with me. This is DAVID making this statement; you know the confident young man that had taken down Goliath and later became King David.
God’s power is found in being poor and needy. In recovery, nothing starts until we admit we are powerless. When we admit we are powerless, poor and needy this is the beginning to having God’s power.
Yes, just like David in Psalm 86:16, God will give us HIS strength. If we will only give up the strength we think we have we will find the strength of the LORD. Seems like a no brainer; yet our fleshly brain and ego fights with every ounce to hold on. But like David, admitting we are poor and needy we find the help, comfort and strength of God.
Can you say it?
Today’s Prayer: LORD God, I am poor and needy. Thank You for hearing my prayers. I trade in all I have for Your love, Your peace and Your strength. Thank You LORD for giving us what is good. You alone are God and I give thanks to You O LORD with my whole heart. Amen

Tom, we are are in need of some sort of recovery. My past blog was about, “Jesus healed them.” Then yesterday, I felt I needed to hang onto that one so I began working on a follow-up. Then this morning I got a phone call and the voice said, “Patsy, you need to come in for a follow up mammogram. There are some things we need to look at.” So… I have another 8:00 mammogram in the morning.
But… we all need to be heal from one sort or another. And right now, I am praying and trusting God for strength for today and hope for tomorrow. Remember me in your prayers. God has a plan for me, and I want to be obedient to his calling. I pray that I do not have to drink of this cup but if I do that I will be faithful to his calling.

Amen Patsy, I totally believe we ALL have something we need recovery from. I love the honesty I have experienced at Celebrate Recovery and often say EVERYONE needs the support and freedom to be completely honest in a safe and loving environment. Life is full of hurts, habits and hangups and God is always the the one who heals and guides us in His will. All things work out for good for those called to His purpose and I know you are my sister.
I will set a reminder alarm on my phone to pray for you at 8:00 in the morning! I am SO grateful, almost to tears, that you allow me to pray with you and for you! Let us pray together: Father God, Almighty God we love You and trust You. LORD I come to You now lifting up my sister Patsy for Your special care. You know LORD the plans You have for her. LORD I ask for Your hand to be upon her at this time. May Your peace and Your comfort bathe over her in Your Holy Spirit. Calm these storms of human emotion and fears that are natural in these bodies You created. LORD God, our God I ask for Your strength to be with Patsy and also Your healing hand to touch her. LORD, Patsy loves You and I ask you to protect her and to use her for Your glory. I pray Your strength upon her so she can be faithful to You in all things. In Your love we live. I ask all these things in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen

“If we will only give up the strength we think we have we will find the strength of the LORD.” I really loved this Tom, and am coming to Him right now, confessing that I am poor and needy. Thank you and God bless you for another great affirmation!

Cindy I am joining you in your prayer! Yes, thank You LORD for your grace, help us in our poverty and our need. We love You with all the love You have given us. You are greater than we can conceive yet some how we know Your love. We join You in the fullness of Your Love! More and more.
Blessings Cindy. I am so thankful for You and pray now for you and your family. Are your parents moved in with you now? Praying God’s strength in your needs.
Cindy says
Yes Tom…they moved in May 14th, and it has been a blessing, really, beyond words for all of us. I am keeping kind of a journal of some of the amazing changes (miraculous actually )I have seen in my parents…especially my Mom, and when I have a bit more time, I would love to share them! As you know though…blessings rarely come without obstacles, difficulties, pain, and challenges, and so I covet your prayers! Maybe that is why this post hit me so hard: I am indeed poor and needy. Daily, I need His wisdom, counsel, understanding and knowledge to really be there for my parents, family, and the incredible caretakers who come in and help us out. Colossians 2:6-7 was the key verse at yesterday’s service…the Message version especially touched me…just thought I’d share! Thank you for all you do Tom…blessings on you and yours, Cindy
Tom Raines says
Praise the LORD Cindy! I am thankful with you and I so appreciate the update and the scripture. God is with you and I am praying for you and your family as you travel His road. Blessings and fullness.
Patsy says
Tom, Debbie, and Cindy, thanks for the prayers. I did not request prayer from the media world except through Tom’s blog. My parents and immediate family knew. You all heard my request to Tom and the concern of my heart. I am grateful to God for His mercy and grace in giving me a great report, and for your kindness in praying for me. Your prayers touched my heart. I am in the car now, not driving, obviously, so I responded to you all together. May God pour His blessings on you today. And may God receive the glory.
Tom Raines says
We praise You LORD for Patsy’s good report. Patsy, I too was blessed by the prayers of Debbie and Cindy. What a blessing that God has brought us all together. The heart of God has touched all of our hearts and in turn I am sure these prayers today for you Patsy touched God’s heart. Praying for continued blessings as we seek to remain faithful to God and stand up for others. Blessings and thanksgivings!
Cindy says
PRAISE THE LORD! It has been a blessing and an honor to pray for you, and it is a gift to share in your great news now Patsy! The Lord is faithful and He does indeed get all the glory!! May God continually bless you, and bless yours, Cindy
