Today’s Scripture: Moved by the Spirit, Simeon went into the temple courtyard. Mary and Joseph were bringing the child Jesus into the courtyard at the same time. They brought him so that they could do for him what Moses’ Teachings required. Luke 2:27 GWT
Do you think Simeon knew? Yes, I know the Holy Spirit had revealed to him he would see the Messiah. But, do you think Simeon knew that his faithfulness would put his name in the Holy Scriptures? Do you think Simeon understood he would help millions upon millions of people over thousands of years help confirm that this really was the Messiah?
What if he had hit the snooze button or found something else to do that day? If he was head of the royal Sanhedrin as some propose then surely he had an important meeting to attend. The 41st day after Jesus’ birth only came once. I am sure Mary and Joseph were only at the temple for only a few short minutes or hours that day. Where was Simeon? He was there.
Do you and I know? Do we realize what our faithfulness can do for others? God’s plan was Simeon and Simeon showed up. According to the Great Commission you and I are the plan as well. I do believe each of us have a unique and special calling, like Simeon; are we preparing ourselves for that hour?
Today’s Prayer: Yahweh, thank You for Your Spirit. Reveal Yourself and Your plan for me. Speak clearly LORD. Continue to prepare my heart, my soul and my mind for what You have already planned for me to give the world for You. Please give me full nourishment of Your daily bread that will prepare me for that day, for that hour You intend for me to serve Your purpose. Amen.

We had a speaker Sunday who said the ultimate answer to prayer is that we get God Himself. His presence. confirms what you have written about today. Thanks.
Thanks Bill! Now there is a statement to ponder: “we get God Himself.” yes, that is a period and a powerful realization. Thanks for sharing! Your quote spoke to this today also…what is our focus…”to be the answer to the question or the call of God.”
Loved this Tom! As Chuck Swindoll said “90% of ministry is just showing up!”
Thanks jelillie! So true…just show up!!
Beautiful reflection and prayer! Thank you, Tom!
So much we can learn from the faithfulness of Simeon.
May we fill ever more our days with prayer,
our moments with God’s powerful Presence…
and our lives with faithful surrender to God’s plan!

“do we know what our faithfulness can do for other?”
I’m left speechless by this post Tom. One of my favorites of yours. So much to think about-asking God to help me to be faithful, not to let Him down…(okay, I wasn’t really speechless) 🙂
Ha…thankful you speak wonderful words. I am thankful for God’s plan for you and how you are faithful. You have impacted my life forever just by allowing Him to use you. He did great with His plan with you…whether you think so or not at times..:) Blessings and action!
