Are we hungry enough? Really hungry enough? Jesus promises to us in Luke 6: 21 Blessed are you who hunger now, For you shall be filled. Blessed are you who weep now, For you shall laugh. (NKJ)
The affirmation the Lord showed me today from this scripture was “God fills my hunger”. He promised that if I was hungry He would fill me. There are different types of hunger aren’t there? Today I am taking the perspective of spiritual hunger.
I will be blessed if I am hungry. Are you hungry? We hear the analogy in sports all of the time. If you didn’t win you just weren’t hungry enough.
This hit me this morning as I recalled a conversation I was having with someone after a meeting last night. I was having a hard time expressing in words how God had revealed His Spirit to me and what that process has been like. Can you explain your communication with God?
This person was perplexed at the lack of connection with God. They have read books, gone to classes, and is trying to read the bible with difficulty. All I can do is share my story with them and encourage them to be patient and just seek and praise God. Glorify Him and He will reveal himself. Just be patient it will come.
Patience is required but so is time alone with Him. This is a relationship that takes time, energy, effort and yes, hunger. You must want it over all other things. I find it amazing in this same sixth chapter of Luke in verse 12 we are told: Now it came to pass in those days that He went out to the mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God.(NKJ).
JESUS, went out and prayed ALL NIGHT? Have you ever wondered how those prayers went? This is Jesus praying to His Father and being part of the Trinity kind of praying to Himself, ALL NIGHT LONG. If it takes Jesus to pray all night to be where He needs to be what does that mean to us? For one, we should be praying…a lot!
We say we don’t have time. We are too busy. We do not have 5 minutes, 15 minutes, 1 hour. Really? What do we put into those minutes and hours? In Luke 6:46 Jesus says: But why do you call Me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do the things which I say? (NKJ)
Ouch that hurts. He tells us what we must do. We aren’t willing; we aren’t hungry enough to spend time with Him. Thank God He is a loving and forgiving God. I pray He reveals Himself to us and shows us the times we can spend with Him. He is also a jealous God and we will find consequences for not following His plan.
God, thank You for Your faithfulness to us. Please give us the energy, diligence and hunger to seek after you above all others. Please give us the patience and strength to seek you and know that you will fill us. God I pray we continue until the miracle happens. Until each of us finds You and You fill us like no other things can.
Have you ever experienced God’s filling of this hunger? Do you struggle to find that connection with God? Have you ever been frustrated by your communications God? Where are you?
No matter where you are today. Hang onto His promise that if you are hungry, He will fill you up.
