Today’s Affirmation: Wherever I am the hand of the Lord leads me and His right hand holds me.
“Wherever”, that can take us a lot of places can’t it? Where are you today? God is there. There are more places we can be today than can be listed here. This daily affirmation comes from our friend David in Psalms 139:10. Even there Your hand shall lead me, And Your right hand shall hold me.
“Even” there. We are all at different places at this very moment. Some are hurting, some are sick, some are angry, some are lost, some are dying, some are broken, some are in denial, some are joyous, some are confused, some are consumed by lusts, some are on the top of the world, and some are living in the pits of hell… Yes, even there.
139:1 says “You have searched me and known me.” God knows where you are. Can I comprehend Him knowing my every move, your every move? No, and David acknowledges that in 139:6. We just can not attain that kind of knowledge. I don’t know why or how but just believe He is.
This scripture says whether we are in heaven or hell at the moment we can not flee His presence. This brings so many questions of why we are where we are that I am not equipped to answer. I can only share what I have seen and heard. Your story is different. I know that as I laid prostrate before Him this morning confessing some of my deepest darkest places I have yet to surrender to Him he brought me here to this scripture.
Does this make my sin or my struggle OK? No, just assurance that even there He is with me and will guide me out and hold me. He wired me, He knows me and He is there for me, even when I don’t want Him to be. He will hold my hand and guide me and then hold me. Where are you? I am sorry if you are in a bad place today and I pray that you will reach for His hand to guide you and just know He is there and will hold you. Even there.
- Do you have places where you doubt God’s presence?
- How do you deal with your inability to “understand” this concept?
- Where are you today? Can you grab His hand?
Search our hearts and thoughts today Lord and lead us in the everlasting way. Here is my hand.

Wow…there have been seasons when I truly couldn’t “feel” God’s Presence. For a long time. Those times are tough. It comes down to raw faith.
Today, even though I’m not tickled with my circumstances, I am feeling His Presence. Humbly I think I can say it’s almost constant right now.
But I pray if I come into a season where I doubt His Presence I’ll be somehow strengthened to trust…
So encouraging Tom, so many are hurting …
Quick note tom before I have to go. this is good stuff and I appreciate you reminding me of God’s promise.
Those are the hard times. Like last week when I was not sure what God was going to orchestrate in my son and daughter-n-laws lives as the Nashville flood “seemed” to be coming in all around them, or twice when God brought my husband through an acoustic aroma, and triple bypass surgery. I must confess that in my faith, I had to ask God to forgive my doubt. For when we pray, it is easy to ask Him to respond as we see things, but when we pray, God please protect them as you orchestrate your will in their lives. It is so hard to actually release them to His will and purpose. God is still working in my family to teach me, that faith is not trusting God to answer as we want Him to, but trusting that He is in control and will take care of us. You know the sad thing is that during all these times, there was only two individuals that reminded me of this truth. I thank God for their voices of encouragement during these hard times. We must learn to place our faith in the God who is faithful.
Hi tomraines,
I think your response is beautiful in this ‘doubt and inability to understand’ in the sense that you speak of here in your blog.
I think praying and asking God to help us in these times of doublt is a good strategy. God says ask and it will be given to you. I often ask for Wisdom. She is not the wisdom of this world. God gives her a female designation in the Bible.
If we’re getting 70% of the world and 30% of God in our lives I think doubt and stuggle will come. We should probably balance the world with God or give God the upper influence in our lives.
i think God gives grace where we are working at our jobs and can’t get away from some world influences but I believe we need to ask for this grace. The principle to me is to ‘ask for it, seek for it, and knock on the door of your need’ for example grace in the workplace etc.
Another option is to maybe look for a better workplace environment.
These are just my feelings of how I might handle and try to overcome my doubt. The Bible says ‘get wisdom and you get undertanding’ I think wisdom might be the thing to go after. the Bible says ‘ask for this wisdom and it will be given to you’ I believe it’s God’s will that we keep asking for Wisdom.
