Today’s Affirmation: I seek the wisdom from above.
I find great comfort in knowing God’s wisdom is the ultimate way to go and the benefits to all are so much greater. I cry out for wisdom and lift up my voice for understanding today. This affirmation is drawn from James 3:17 “However, the wisdom that comes from above is first of all pure. Then it is peaceful, gentle, obedient, filled with mercy and good deeds, impartial, and sincere.” God’s Word Translation.
Sounds like a great friend, huh? Let’s see, would you like to have a friend who is pure, peaceful, gentle, obedient, full of mercy and good deeds, fair and sincere? Sure you would. Would you like to be that friend for someone else? You can.
Trust me, I have tried my wisdom and you should just see where that has taken me. How has self seeking wisdom worked out for you? Seeking my own wisdom gave me desires for things that would make me happy which creates jealousy of those who do have those things and selfish ambition. Seeking only my wisdom and the wisdom of this world got me disorder and every kind of evil just like promised in James 3:16.
James 3:15 spells it out clearly: For jealousy and selfishness are not God’s kind of wisdom. Such things are earthly, unspiritual, and motivated by the Devil. (NLT) We must SEEK the Wisdom from above. It will not come naturally. If we just let it happen the demands and desires of this world turns us inward to a different kind of wisdom, understanding, self seeking, doesn’t it?
All of these verses follow James’ warning about the tongue. What we say is such an indicator of our heart. What do we hear ourselves saying? Does this sound like we have wisdom from above or self seeking wisdom? Lord, I seek Your wisdom today. May I bear your fruit today and share Your peace. Lord we seek Your Spirit today.
- Do you actively seek the wisdom from above?
- Can you recognize the difference between the wisdom from above and that of this world?
- What are the fruits of God’s wisdom versus the fruits from earthly wisdom?
- Does your speech reflect or impact the wisdom you are possessing?
I pray we seek Your wisdom today. Bear your fruit through us to reflect your heart to those we touch today. May our speech reflect You.

Speech is sometimes a hard thing for me. I am judgmental and cutting. I really have been convicted of it since having kids. Wow, can I really see how my words affect them when I say something! And not only that, I have a bad habit of venting to my friends on the phone and I see the fruit of that too. My kids seem to hear and know all that mom does, unfortunately. And its not pretty. “motivated by the devil”….I have to sit back and say..Wow! Sometimes we don’t realize the gravity of our sins, who we are listening to (the devil), and how it affects others. It takes a loving God to show us that we are sinning. Thanks for the word today 🙂

Michelle, I can soooo relate. I really regret my tone with my family members. I see it in my daughter. So incredible how I talk to those closest to me where I give those who don’t even know me my best…I will study more in the the previous verses about the tongue…definitely scares me the evil that can reside inside of me that so easily comes out…Thank you for chiming in. Your honesty is always refreshing!

Seeking wisdom does not mean that everything is going to be easy. For when we are given the wisdom invariably the Lord will speak through scripture. As we apply what we know to be true, it should be sifted through the sift of love. However, Love is tough sometimes and however we speak truth it hurts. The scripture tells us that, “the Word of God is sharper than a two edged sword.” When we speak truth so many times it cuts into our deepest being. I try ever so hard to bring love and peace to others and yet we are to give answers from scripture and not from our own prospective or feelings. We must always give an answer as this may be how I feel because I love you but we we are taught to act and react based on Biblical truths. I wrote a blog one day based on the scripture and relating to a dear friend of mine. Another person that I know though I was talking about them, (guess the Holy Spirit was convicting her), and I received a very ugly, demeaning letter from her. As we are confronted with questions and decisions and we align our thinking in obedience to scripture, we will almost always face some opposition. Does that change how we act and react, no. The main thing is to ask as we receive wisdom is to ask, How can we put the enduring truth of love (grace and truth) into practice in our lives in order that we may show the love of God to others. Praying for you, Robin, and Emma.

So true Patsy, I am by nature non confrontational (except with my family) but strongly believe that Jesus came and showed love over law. Everything in love is ok. I think we can ask for wisdom from above to give us the words and the perspective. When I rely on my wisdom I spout my understanding of the law which may be hurtful and downright wrong. We are not ashamed of the scripture and must share it but in a loving and merciful way that only wisdom from above can help this guy… Have a great day!

Sorry I am late getting to this Tom. Friday is my day off and I try not to spend much time on the computer. sometimes I win and sometimes I lose. Sometimes I have wisdom in staying away and sometimes I don’t. 🙂 Actually, this is a relevant post as we seek wisdom in our neck of the woods on certain decisions. Thanks for the insight.
