Today’s Affirmation: I find blessings at the end of the rope.
Hanging on for dear life many times we feel like we are at the end of our rope. No where else to go, out of options, losing our grip. As my hands lose their grip I have to trust God with whatever comes next. I can not hold on any longer.
In Matthew 5:3 the Message says: “You’re blessed when you’re at the end of your rope. With less of you there is more of God and his rule.”
The New American Standard Bible says a version most of us have heard: “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”
Have you found this to be true? Have you held on to something or someone for so long and so tight that you were choking the life out? Have you found that when you loosened your grip on that habit, that addiction, that job, that relationship or other rope and trusted the God of Heaven that you were much more blessed. Blessed to find out that His loving arms, His embrace was so much better than the burn of the rope in our hands? Why do we hold on?
I have had to ask myself I was holding on to that??!! As I look back, I see blessings that I robbed myself and others of because I was hanging on to the stinking rope. I did not go willingly or purposefully but did find at the end of my rope a God beyond my understanding. A God who wanted better things for me and offered me a blessed life here in God’s kingdom, on earth as it is in heaven. I have found peace knowing I have also been given the kingdom of heaven for all eternity.
- What rope are you at the end of? Can you let go and trust that you will be blessed?
- Now that you have exhausted your power can you feel the relief of letting go?
- What blessings have you found when you finally let go of one of your ropes?
- Pray now that you can let go of whatever rope you are holding onto and accept the promise of God.
Father God, I am poor in spirit, at the end of my rope and I accept your promise of the kingdom today. Use me to gently help others as they let go.

Seems to me that someone once said, “when you realize God is all you have, you will know that God is all you need.” I have been at what I thought was the end of my rope several times-wanted to throw in the towel of service-but have found Him sufficient. Thanks for the thoughts today Tom.

Thanks Bill, glad you didn’t throw in the towel! He is all we need, I still do not understand why I hold on soooooo tight before remembering that!!
Have a wonderful day and I so appreciate your blogging ministry!!

Thanks for the reminder. Why do we hold on so tightly to the things that hold us captive? It makes as much sense as hanging on the end of a rope from the window of a burning building, as the smoke, heat, and the flames , slowly take their lives, yet will refuse the safety they will receive if they would only turn lose and drop into the safety net. My thoughts just turn to Peter. It was not until he turned loose of the boat and reached for Jesus….that he was able to walk on the water. Oh what joy he must have felt. Father, help my brothers and sisters and me to exercise our faith by using the strength you have put within us, to turn loose of our safety boat/rope, and experience the peace and joy that awaits us, sheltered in your arms.

Speaking as someone who has had to learn coping skills over the years, I can tell you I’ve gotten to the end of my rope more times than I care to admit!
I’ll say that letting go is painful. Frightening. Horrific sometimes…
But always … sweet relief. God is in the letting go.
Why don’t I more readily remember that!? Why don’t I let go sooner?
You have me thinking with this post and the one after…thinking and asking God if I need to let go of something…
Wonderful post

Thanks Robin. God is in the letting go and I too wonder why I somehow hold on. Lack of faith, fear ? Anyway, it does become easier when we continue to remind each other.
Have a great day!
