Today’s Scripture: Psalm107:1, NIV- “Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever.”
Do we really give thanks to the LORD as often as we think we do? This morning Psalm 107 opened my eyes and heart. As I read the words to give thanks to the LORD for His love that endures forever, I simply turned to the LORD and said, “Thank You LORD for Your love that endures forever.”
I thought for certain that I had written this affirmation many times before. However, after a search of the twenty-eight thousand affirmations I have recorded over the past fourteen years, I could not find any other instances where I had captured the words, “thank You LORD for Your love.”
Are you kidding me? Do we really need to be reminded to thank the LORD? The beauty of God’s Word, just like His love, is that it also endures forever. Day after day, year after year, we are reminded of God’s love for us in His Word.
Psalm 107:2 states “Let the redeemed of the LORD say so, Whom He has redeemed from the hand of the enemy;” (NKJV) I know that these writings are my efforts to share the redemption I have found. We need to spread the word of how God redeemed each of us so others too will know the hope of redemption. Two other times in Psalm 107 we are reminded to tell our stories of redemption.
As Psalm 107:4 states, some wandered in desert wastelands, finding no way to a city where they could settle. (NIV) That can describe us today, right? We can certainly wander into some unsettling places. We can be thankful for the wastelands since this is where we truly come to know the hunger and thirst of our soul as written in Psalm 107:5.
Wherever we go and whatever we face we can still do as we are told the wanderers did in Psalm 107:6 and three more times through this Psalm, “Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble, And He delivered them out of their distresses.” (NKJV)
We can repeatedly do as Psalm 107:8 and four more verses in Psalm 107 instruct, “Let them give thanks to the LORD for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for mankind.” (NIV) We do find that God satisfies our thirsts and hungers with good things as promised in Psalm 107:9. We do wander into very dark places in our lives, and we even rebel against God’s commands. Although we stumble and it appears there is no one to help us, God’s love and redemption are forever.
Our LORD is still the One that brings us out of darkness and breaks every chain. Even when our souls melt as those mentioned in 107:26, we can continue to cry out to the LORD and He will calm the storms of our lives. We are free to give thanks to the LORD whether in times of storms or peace out of our thanksgivings of His unfailing love and works for us.
Will you thank the LORD for His love now?
Today’s Prayer: LORD, Most High, thank You for Your love for us that endures forever. Thank You LORD for hearing the cries of our distress. Thank You for redeeming us LORD through Your Son Jesus Christ. Magnify our voices of thanksgiving Father God so others too will come to know Your love. Amen.
