Today’s Scripture: Jude 1:25, ESV- “to the only God, our Savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, dominion, and authority, before all time and now and forever. Amen.”
I must confess that I am wondering what I do not understand about ONLY. We can live our entire lives without reading the Word of God, knowing God, or trusting Him. We have all seen the memes that say, “you only had one job.”
Typically this joke is reflected by a picture of a poorly completed project. Humor is representative of our human condition. We can laugh at ourselves, but we cannot seem to get over ourselves.
We can breeze by a Book of the Bible, a chapter, a verse, and almost all of us miss one word. As I read Jude 1:25 this morning there is only one word that is hitting me in my face, heart, and mind. ONLY.
When will I get it? When will I stop thinking other human “experts” have the answers? I am still looking for other people to help me figure out how to complete my ministry and life. Only God spoke Affirmations of God into my heart in January of 2008. However, in 2010 I paid a vocational coach to ask him what these four or five thousand affirmations were meant to be. Fourteen years and almost thirty thousand recorded affirmations later, I still do not know what I am to do.
I only recall being told by this coach to begin blogging as this was like writing a book one day at a time. The first Affirmation of God blog was posted on April 7, 2010. Here I am today writing another. I have found myself again asking others, non-Christian even, for advice on how to advance this calling on my life. How crazy is that? Only God.
Only God knows. When I first became sober in 2007, I recall my sponsor in recovery saying that one day he realized that only Jesus would stand between him and the liquor store. Only Jesus.
Did I skim over or forget what Moses told the Israelites in Deuteronomy 31:8? “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.” (NIV) Only God will never leave us.
Did I forget Jeremiah 29:11? Jeremiah the prophet relayed God’s message to the exiles, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
Only God knows His plans for each of us. Only God is our answer. Since God alone knows, why do we seek answers from those who do not know? We can spend all our lives and resources seeking answers in all the wrong places. Will we ask only God what His plans are for us today?
Today’s Prayer: Father God, I am confessing that You alone are wise, and I am only saved through Jesus Christ our Lord. Forgive me Father for seeking others for guidance for plans only You know. I am asking You now LORD to guide me to complete the plans You have for me. Help me LORD to prosper in the ways You have determined. Thank You LORD for never leaving me nor forsaking me. I am confessing now LORD that only You are my hope and future. In the name of our only Savior, Jesus Christ, I am praying. Amen.
