Today’s Scripture: Matthew 4:24, NKJV- “Then His fame went throughout all Syria; and they brought to Him all sick people who were afflicted with various diseases and torments, and those who were demon-possessed, epileptics, and paralytics; and He healed them.”
Are you thankful for those who brought You to Jesus when you were sick? I vividly recall my mother lovingly telling me she was praying for me when I had no idea, I was an alcoholic. I also recall those who demanded that I seek help.
I had to be humbled to cry out for healing. I am thankful for the others who brought me to the healing place of Jesus Christ. I am hoping to return the favor and bring others to Jesus who are ill as well. The people of Syria had witnessed the healing power of Jesus.
Whether we have experienced healing ourselves or seen the miracles of Jesus, we can bring people to Him too. Whether by prayer or sharing stories of healing, the greatest gift we can provide to others is to bring them to Jesus.
If the people of Syria had it in their own power, they would have had no need to bring other people to Jesus. Those who were healed did not simply go home and live a healed life. Healing should and does create more healing.
There is an old saying that hurt people hurt people. I say healed people bring healing. The healed may not be able to heal but they can bring others to the source of their healing. We need a power beyond ourselves to be healed.
Jesus is the power. Large crowds followed Jesus in the days of Matthew. Large crowds continue to follow Him today. Matthew 5:1 tells us that Jesus saw the crowds and then He went up on the mountainside and sat down. Jesus is still waiting for us to catch up.
In Matthew 5:2, we are told that Jesus “opened His mouth and taught them.” This “Sermon on the Mount” or “Beatitudes” is where Jesus taught us. The very first thing Jesus said to the gathering crowd in Matthew 5:3 was “Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” (KJV)
Jesus was teaching the heart of healing and heaven. Barnes’ notes on the bible states, “ To be poor in spirit is to have a humble opinion of ourselves; to be sensible that we are sinners, and have no righteousness of our own; to be willing to be saved only by the rich grace and mercy of God; to be willing to be where God places us, to bear what he lays on us, to go where he bids us, and to die when he commands; to be willing to be in his hands, and to feel that we deserve no favor from him. It is opposed to pride, vanity, and ambition. Such are happy:”
Do you or someone you know need happiness or healing? Bring them to Jesus. Some will not follow or even believe they are sick. We can begin with prayer. We can share examples of healing. We can offer to take them with us to the source of our healing, Jesus Christ.
Do you have anyone in your life you would like to share the healing powers of Jesus with?
Today’s Prayer: Thank You Lord Jesus for welcoming and teaching us. I am confessing to You now that I am spiritually poor, and I need You for healing, Thank You for the healing You have provided to me and others. Use us, Lord, to bring others to You for the healing they need. Please guide our hearts, minds, and strengths with Your Holy Spirit so we bring others with us for Your healing. Amen.
