Today’s Scripture: 2 Corinthians 10:5, NKJV- “casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ,”
How in this world do we take every thought captive and bring it to the obedience of Christ? First, we must recognize where our thoughts are taking us. Left up to our own thoughts we end up in some scary and regretful places.
Secondly, we must learn to stop and take control of our thoughts and feelings. Once recognized, gathered, and captured, our thoughts can be given to Jesus Christ. Jesus, I have no obedience without Your obedience. I am headed in the wrong direction here and I need Your help.
Reading the Week 8 Day 3 groundwork lesson of re:generation entitled “The battle for your mind”, the key scripture is 2 Corinthians 10:3-6. I was reminded in 2 Corinthians 10:4 that we cannot fight our addictions, worries, challenges, or any other thoughts with the weapons of the flesh. Thank God we have access to His divine and mighty power.
Only with God’s power and the obedience of Jesus can have complete obedience. As Paul wrote in 2 Corinthians 10:1, we must speak and act with the meekness and gentleness of Christ. If we walk and think only by the standards of our flesh and those of this world we will continue to send mixed messages.
We must come to the realization of 2 Corinthians 10:3 that “We are human, but we don’t wage war as humans do.” (NLT) We must fight all our battels by giving them to Christ. As Paul related to us in 2 Corinthians 12:9 “But He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is perfected in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly in my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest on me.” (BSB)
We are at our strongest when we give our weakest thoughts to Christ. It is then that the power of Christ rests upon us. We should not be ashamed by our weaknesses but recognize as Paul did in 2 Corinthians 12:10 “That’s why I take pleasure in my weaknesses, and in the insults, hardships, persecutions, and troubles that I suffer for Christ. For when I am weak, then I am strong.” (NLT)
When we are in a place where we do not know what to think or say, we can give these things to Christ. God is already aware of our weaknesses so when we confess them and bring them to Him, we find a power we could never dream of on our own.
Is giving every thought to Jesus possible? As Paul also promised us in Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Matthew 19:26 also tells us that “Jesus looked at them and said to them, “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” (NKJV)
I know that in myself I do not have all the answers. I do believe that there is a God who can restore us to sanity and provide a power that is beyond our understanding. All I can do is bring myself to Him.
Will you take your thoughts to Christ Jesus?
Today’s prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for Your Son Jesus Christ. Help me LORD to bring all my thoughts to the obedience of Christ. I am weak LORD, but You are strong and I trust in Your divine power. Please help me to take captive all my thoughts and turn them to You so that I do Your will and bring You glory. In the name of Jesus Christ, I am praying. Amen.
