Today’s Scripture: Psalm 95:1, NIV- “Come, let us sing for joy to the LORD; let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation.”
The joy of the LORD is like no other joy. The Rock of our salvation is like no other foundation. When I bow my head and close my eyes the Spirit within me expresses my deepest gratitude and love for Jesus in a song of joy that reveals how loud our silence before the LORD can be.
David was a musician; I am not. In fact, I rarely listen to music. However, we have all experienced the power and emotional connections of music. Certain songs can take us to another place and time. You may be a person who worships and experiences God through song.
However we sing, we can express Psalm 95:3, “For the LORD is the great God, And the great King above all gods.” (NKJV) Early in my recovery and early one morning on my knees I recall experiencing something that Psalm 95:4 reminds me of today, “In his hand are the depths of the earth, and the mountain peaks belong to him.” (NIV)
On this one morning as I was hallowing God’s name from the depths of my soul, God took me on a journey. I recognized that not only was God there with me, but I suddenly was traveling over snow-capped mountains on the other side of the world. As I took in God’s view, I recognized He was the Creator of all, and I also caught a quick buzz. Yes, the same exact buzz I had gotten from alcohol.
At that moment I realized that I had received confirmation from God, that He will give me everything I need. He is the Highest of highs. In that moment, the song of joy that came from me was thanksgiving and praise. The same God who created the mountains created me. Almost two decades later God’s Spirit still carries me across those mountains, and I know that I only need His joy and no longer have a need for any other buzz.
God knows our needs for He wove us together in our mother’s womb. When we follow David’s instructions in Psalm 95:6 “O come, let us worship and bow down: let us kneel before the LORD our maker.” (KJV) It is here we find our songs of joy.
When we worship and bow down to our LORD, we do hear His voice as promised in Psalm 95:7. When we sing for joy from the depths of our hearts and needs, our hearts do come to know His ways. When we know that God provides for all our needs this is where we find His rest and peace, just as He has promised.
Today’s Prayer: Heavenly Father, I am singing with all that I am from the joy I have in You. You LORD are the rock of my salvation. Thank You Father God for all creation. You are my God and Jesus is my salvation. I am singing praises and glory to our risen savior. Thank You LORD for the rest I find in You. Thank You for Your Spirit that is my voice and my travelling companion. Amen.
