Today’s Scripture: 1 Peter 2:3, NLT- “now that you have had a taste of the Lord’s kindness.”
When we taste what we love, we tell others and return for more. This statement by Peter in 1 Peter 2:3 sounds both like a conclusion and a commencement. As we read forwards and backwards to better understand God’s Word we are filled with amazement and love.
In 1 Peter 2:1 we come to realize we are but newborn babies in our salvation. We have only begun to taste the goodness of God. As we crave God’s spiritual milk, we find as Peter professes in 1 Peter 1:25 that the word of the Lord endures forever. We are fed and we grow spiritually each and every time we return to consume God’s Word.
As 1 Peter 1:23 promises, “since you have been born again, not of perishable seed but of imperishable, through the living and abiding word of God;” (ESV), we crave to live in God’s Word and have it live in us. The wonders and abiding love of God is found in His Word forever.
The more we crave the LORD the more we are fed and the more we grow spiritually. As 1 Peter 1:22 points out “Having purified your souls by your obedience to the truth for a sincere brotherly love, love one another earnestly from a pure heart,” we find a love we never knew before.
The more we crave God’s incorruptible and unconditional love, the more we know His holiness and joy. We experience 1 Peter 1:8, “Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy,” (NIV).
We must share this inexpressible and glorious joy. I continue to write, not out of my joy of writing, but out of my desire to share in what I have tasted in the Lord. My prayer is that you too taste God’s spiritual milk and you will share the love you have tasted with others.
Moving forward we see in 1 Peter 2:5 that “you yourselves like living stones are being built up as a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.” You and I are being built up to our own ministries that glorify God and Jesus Christ.
My greatest desire is that when you partake in God’s spiritual milk, you come to recognize who God is building you up to be. As 1 Peter 2:9 puts it, “But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.”
The wonderful light of Christ that we have found in our darkest places has now become our purpose in this life. As 1 Peter 2:21 reveals, “For you have been called for this purpose, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, so that you would follow in His steps,”.
We read about Jesus’ example in God’s Word and we are fed by the Helper as we are promised in John 14:26 “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and remind you of all that I said to you.”
Will you share with others what you have tasted in the LORD?
Today’s Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for Your goodness and for the nourishment of Your Word and Holy Spirit. Thank You for providing us with the spiritual milk so that we grow spiritually to welcome others into Your abiding love. Have us crave You LORD and share Your joy and wonderful light with all others. In the name of our risen savior Jesus Christ, we do pray. Amen.
