Today’s Scripture: 1 Samuel 10:9, KJV- “And it was so, that when he had turned his back to go from Samuel, God gave him another heart: and all those signs came to pass that day.”
I am thankful that God allows us to experience His words. Just this morning as I prayed to God, I was reminded of 1 Samuel 10:9 where we are told God gave Samuel another heart. I was feeling some emotions in my heart, yet when my attention turned to God, I felt another heart.
Seriously and if you are willing, let us attempt an experiment this morning. Go to a quiet place and close your eyes and think about the love you have for someone or something here on earth that you really love. Feel the love in your heart. Now, with your eyes still closed, confess your love, need, or thanksgivings to God. I find that under my closed eyelids, my eyes rise towards the heavens. In that moment I sensed another heart, do you?
In addition to 1 Samuel 10:9, God also promised the people of Israel in Ezekiel 36:26 that He would give them a new heart and put a new spirit in them. He said He would remove their hearts of stone and give them a heart of flesh. I feel as if I have a heart of flesh yet also another heart of the Spirit. I know it sounds delusional, but I can feel a deeper centered heart. The heart where I am sure the Spirit of God resides.
I know this sounds crazy, maybe you will even wonder, like Eli did towards Hannah in 1 Samuel 1:13 where we are told “Hannah was praying in her heart, and her lips were moving but her voice was not heard. Eli thought she was drunk.” (NIV)
I can relate to Hannah in 1 Samuel 1:15, “Not so, my lord,” Hannah replied, “I am a woman who is deeply troubled. I have not been drinking wine or beer; I was pouring out my soul to the LORD.” (NIV) When we pour out our souls and look to the LORD with our hearts, I have experienced that this is where we find another deeper heart.
This is also how Jesus was relaying to the woman at the well in John 4:23, “Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks.” (NIV)
When we worship God the Father in Spirit and in truth we find another heart. If you did not experience this here on our first try, I promise that if you continually pour your soul out to the Father you will come to recognize the heart of the Spirit, another heart.
When we cry out to God from our new heart, it is here where we experience the presence of God. It is also where we answer the human wondering if there is more to this life. Yes, there is more but it is not found outside of us in this world. More is found in another heart that God has given us.
Do you recognize another heart within you?
Today’s Prayer: Thank You Father God for another heart. Thank You for your Spirit and truth. Thank You for your prophets that have come before us to teach us of Your voice and heart. We are asking for Your living water in the person of Jesus Christ and for another heart in which we commune with You in Your Spirit. We come before You now pouring out our souls to receive Your heart. Amen.
