Today’s Scripture: 2 Corinthians 3:6, BSB- “And He has qualified us as ministers of a new covenant, not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.”
The Spirit of God qualifies us to serve Him and others. The Spirit of God “pops” things into our consciousness and He responds to them in His Word. Over time I have come to realize these occurrences are not coincidences, they are the Spirit of God at work in our lives. God gives us life and instructions by His Spirit and His Word.
Like Paul in 2 Corinthians 2:3, I write so others may know my joy. I also write as Paul mentions in 2 Corinthians 2:4 out of my love for God and all others. You and I are open letters. You have heard the old saying to be careful how you act in public because you may be the only bible some people will ever read. What will people read in us today as they come across our paths? Paul says this letter is not written in ink but by the Spirit of the living God.
Even the darkest parts of our lives become a light in the gospel of Jesus Christ. 2 Corinthians 4:6 encourages us with the words “For it is the God who commanded light to shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.” (NKJV) Our testimonies of how God’s light shined into our darkest places are His light shining out of us and are our letters to this world.
Our guilt of past failures is turned into hope and purpose. As 2 Corinthians 4:7 assures us, “We now have this light shining in our hearts, but we ourselves are like fragile clay jars containing this great treasure. This makes it clear that our great power is from God, not from ourselves.” (NLT) We were not created to be perfect but to be broken so we reveal the power and perfection of God.
Instead of living in our past hurts, habits, and hang-ups we live with the expectation of 2 Corinthians 4:10, “We always carry around in our body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be revealed in our body.” (NIV) Our attitude of gratitude of living in the grace of Jesus reveals Him to others. We reveal a light that will open eyes and break into darkened hearts.
As 2 Corinthians 4:13-14 puts it” It is written: “I believed; therefore I have spoken.” Since we have that same spirit of faith, we also believe and therefore speak, because we know that the one who raised the Lord Jesus from the dead will also raise us with Jesus and present us with you to himself.” (NIV) When we come to recognize the power that is greater than us that is alive in us, we are offering God’s Spirit-given life.
As 2 Corinthians 4:15 promises, “All this is for your benefit, so that the grace that is reaching more and more people may cause thanksgiving to overflow to the glory of God.” (NIV) Let us tell our stories of how Jesus Christ saved us and how the Spirit of God gives us life and more and more people will indeed overflow with thanksgiving and give glory to our God.
Will you share the light and life that you have received from the Spirit of God?
Today’s Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for Your light and Your Spirit. Help us to reflect the glow of Jesus Christ so others come to know You. Thank You for exposing us by Your light and for filling us with Your Spirit so we can share Your love and ways. I am praying that the light and letter You have placed inside of us will welcome more and more of those who have been blinded by the ruler of this world, so they come to know the thanksgivings of Your glory. In the name of Jesus Christ we do pray. Amen.
