Today’s Scripture: Revelation 15:2, NIV- “And I saw what looked like a sea of glass glowing with fire and, standing beside the sea, those who had been victorious over the beast and its image and over the number of its name. They held harps given them by God and sang the song of God’s servant Moses and of the Lamb: “Great and marvelous are your deeds, Lord God Almighty. Just and true are your ways, King of the nations.”
God and His Spirit have a way of transporting us. This morning as I knelt in my prayer closet, I suddenly heard sounds of praise I recently experienced in Jamaica. As I was experiencing a sunrise on the rooftop of my fiancé’s rural childhood home, I heard praises rising above the crowing roosters, neighing goats, and birds.
These praises emanated from a small tin hut inhabited by, I am told, three generations of people. In that twenty by sixty-foot structure and in that moment the luxuries of the heart overwhelmed the luxuries of humanity. Fortunately, I turned on the video recording on my phone as I wanted to capture the sounds. I am not sure I realized it at the moment, but I did capture a few words the young lady was singing.
She sang, “holy and righteous.” I had never heard the song, and this young lady has no idea how God is using her praises. She simply sang the praises God gave to her. Later, I found the song being played was one of Jamaican origin. The song is by Jermaine Gordon and the song is “You are God.” You can find this song on YouTube.
God gave her His voice as He gave the harps to those in Revelation 15:2. God gives us our instruments and the songs as well. We are victorious when we share from God’s holiness and will.
We tend to set our sights too low. Instead of aiming for the best of humankind, we can look to the Holy One, who is and who always was, so we may pour out His glory and power. Although easily overlooked, it strikes me this morning the power of Revelation 15:5, “After these things I looked, and behold, the temple of the tabernacle of the testimony in heaven was opened.”
After what things are the heavens opened for us? We must first look to the heavens, use what God has given us, and sing our praises to the Lord God Almighty. When we repent and give God glory, we witness His light. When this world collapses, we must not be found intoxicated by the immoralities nor luxuries of earth as we are warned in Revelation 17:2. We must be found singing praises and expressing what our God has given us.
In Revelation 17:14 we are promised that this world will “make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb will overcome them, for He is Lord of lords and King of kings; and those who are with Him are called, chosen, and faithful.” As we are found faithful with our praises, we do experience the riches and splendors of God.
Revelations 18:14 promises, all the riches and splendors of this world that our hearts can lust for will someday be gone forever. However, our praises to our holy and righteous God will ring out forever. Will you express what God has given you today? You never know who may be listening.
Today’s Prayer: Almighty God You alone are holy and righteous. Thank You LORD for giving us our instruments and songs of praise. Use us, Your servants, to praise Your name. May we follow Your Spirit to lift our praises so others may come to know You and the riches of Your will. In the name of the Lamb of God, Jesus Christ we do pray. Amen.
