Today’s Scripture: For which of you, desiring to build a tower, does not first sit down and count the cost, whether he has enough to complete it? Luke 14:28 ESV
At first glance this affirmation seems to be about contentment with what we have. However, it appears to me, today, that this feels more like I have HAD enough. Like the parable Jesus tells to the religious leaders here in Luke 14 we are full of excuses aren’t we? Although invited to the party we have found many reasons why the timing was just not convenient to go to Him.
In verse 14:26 Jesus makes the point that we must hate all other things if we are to be His disciple; even our own lives. Have you had enough? Each of us has our own crosses to carry to be His disciple. Call it what you will: cross, desires, lusts, thorns in the flesh, distractions, obligations, or opportunities. We all have them and we must bear them.
Consider the cost. Do we have enough to finish? Have we had enough of what the world has to offer to count them as costs to being with Him? Have you had enough of chasing after money, after lusts of the flesh, the approval of man? I loved Matthew Henry’s commentary, yes even our “most beloved lusts”.
Yes, I have counted the cost, and I have enough. How about you?
Today’s Prayer: LORD, thank You for inviting me to Your party. I carry all I have to You. Thank You for showing the costs to be with you forever. Yes, LORD, I have had enough of trying things my way and I have enough of these things to know You are the way. All I desire is to be Your disciple. I give up all to follow You. Please help me finish. Amen

Amen, tom. Lord, you are more than enough for me!
More than enough and I count all other as loss! Thanks Dustin!
When I come to my senses (ala prodigal son) and realize at home with the Father is where I need to be, that is when I realize I have enough and HE is enough. Thanks for the reminder Tom.
Amen Bill, let’s carry it all back to Him and He will run out to greet us! HE IS ENOUGH! Thanks for stopping by!
How many times I’ve been starving in my spirit when God-given nourishment is right in front of me…counting the cost is what stands out to me. Pausing and taking inventory…do I want to continue in worry, fret, anxiety and chasing after worldly gain?
No…I have enough…Father, help me see your provisions … every moment of every day.
Thanks my friend…
Amen Robin, thanks for stopping by!
Yes Robin, thank you. LORD please open our eyes to our daily bread and that You are enough and our provider.
