Today’s affirmation is taken from John 1:4: In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. Verse 5 shows our natural reaction to this light “And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.”
Can we live but not be alive? In the first three chapters of John this morning I am reminded that there is a huge difference between living and life. In 1:14 we were told the Word that was in the beginning became flesh in the person of Jesus. I have found a challenge this morning in John 1:39. “Come and see”. Andrew had just seen Jesus for the first time and was following Jesus as He walked away. Jesus turned to Andrew and his unnamed friend. “What do you seek?”
What a great question Jesus asks here. What do you seek? Andrew asked some lame question like “where are you staying?” Even when we are not eloquent and do not have the words, Jesus really does know what we are seeking better than we do, doesn’t he? What would your reply be if Jesus turned to you and said, “What do you seek?”
Andrew took the challenge of “Come and see” and after he spent the day with Jesus he went and saw his brother and said, “We have found the Christ.” For those of us who have experienced and love this light, can we challenge others to just come and see? John 3:29 is a verse that has proven true to me: “…Therefore this joy of mine is fulfilled.” (NIV) In the light I have found that my joy has been fulfilled. Has yours?
Have you experienced anything like Andrew where you would go to your brother and say that you had “seen the Christ”? Do you love the light? Just as Jesus said that we would not understand it, I don’t. All I can challenge you with is “come and see”. In this light there is life WAY more filling than the life I was living in the darkness. Do you understand it?
Come and see, I have seen the Christ.

Jesus is The Word. The Scriptures are The Word. Jesus and The Father are One. God the Father, The Son, and The Spirit… It is all wonderfully tied-together like a tapestry of great purpose and beauty.
Thanks, Tom!
Nice! Thanks Donald!
Also reminded Tom of the woman at the well who went and told her friends to come and see and then after they did they say, “We believe not because you have told us but because we have seen for ourselves.” Come and see indeed.
Awesome! thanks Bill. Yes, all we can tell is what we have seen and heard so surely others may have fellowship with us and this fellowship is with Jesus Christ!
This post has two beautiful things to think about …’come and see’ …truly the way we find Jesus for ourselves.
And my favorite, ‘what do you seek’…this question stopped me in my tracks. Today, what do I seek? After thinking about this, I would say today I seek to do His will.
Have a great day my friend.
Thanks for dropping in and sharing. The “What do you seek”, froze me as well. May we always be prepared to to answer that. Please stop by again some day!
