Today’s Scripture: Then I said, “O LORD, God of heaven, the great and awesome God who keeps his covenant of unfailing love with those who love him and obey his commands, listen to my prayer! Look down and see me praying night and day for your people Israel. I confess that we have sinned against you. Yes, even my own family and I have sinned! Nehemiah 1:5-6 NLT Tyndale
I just love the heart and prayers of Nehemiah. One of my favorite verses on prayer is in Nehemiah and I can feel the expectation as I have come back to his book. I fight the urge to look ahead, yet I will look at the first two chapters today and just learn from him.
Can you see a perfect model in His prayer? He first recognizes and praises WHO he is praying to. The LORD, God of heaven, the great and awesome God. He reminds God of His promises to Moses to bring us all back to a place where His name will be honored. He admits that God has rescued us with His great power and might.
When we delight in honoring God, Nehemiah shows that God will grant us success and put it into the hearts of others to help us. God will give us the wisdom and boldness to ask for those things that will help us complete our mission. He will give more than we can even think or ask.
God has placed plans in our hearts. Let’s ask now that the LORD, God of heaven, listens to our prayers. When He looks down on us day and night what will He see?
Today’s Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for Your gracious hand that is upon me. Forgive me for my sins. Your plans have been put on my heart. Listen to my prayer O LORD. With a prayer to You in heaven I am asking for help to gain what is necessary for me to complete the plans You have given me. You are powerful and mighty and I know You will help me succeed. Amen
