Today’s Scripture: Matthew 4:4, ESV- “But he answered, “It is written, “‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.'”
I have certainly found life in the Word of God but have come to know that I need the Spirit of God to live on every word. The Holy Spirit helps us and leads us. I am praying now that I am learning to do as Paul stated in 2 Corinthians 10:5 “We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.” (NIV)
Our natural thoughts, feelings, and emotions take us captive in a split second. We must constantly be reminded as Paul was reminding the Corinthians that we are not to live by the standards nor fight our battles with the weapons of this world.
As the Spirit led Jesus into the wilderness in Matthew 4:1, He is leading us too. As Jesus fasted for forty days and nights, we are also being prepared. The tempter showed up when Jesus was at his weakest and yet the word of God saved Him when His flesh was reduced.
Day after day of reading God’s Word we are being prepared. At each crossroad, crisis, and decision the Holy Spirit reminds us of every word. On our own, we do not have the bandwidth to remember all of God’s words yet the Spirit within us feeds us what we need exactly when we need it.
I am praying now to be prepared by every word of God. We will always fail, even when at our best, if we are relying on our nature. However, when we pause and wait upon the Spirit of God, we are given the comfort and life God intends for us.
In Matthew 4:10 “Jesus said to him, “Away from me, Satan! For it is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.’” (NIV) When we have our hearts, minds, and souls set to worship and serve God alone then we are able to live as Jesus promised in John 10:10 “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” (NIV)
Are you equipping yourself with the Word of God and asking the Holy Spirit to guide you?
Today’s Prayer: Father God, thank You for Your Spirit and for Your Word. Forgive me for my weakness and my sins. Help me to grow and live on Your every word. Prepare me against the tempter. Strengthen me with Your Word to pass any test. You and Your Word are my life. Amen.
