Today’s Scripture: Hebrews 13:20-21, NKJV- “Now may the God of peace who brought up our Lord Jesus from the dead, that great Shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant, make you complete in every good work to do His will, working in you what is well pleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.”
God gets us to where He wants us, and He has prepared us for that moment. I find weird experiences occur that I cannot understand nor explain when I am bringing my spirit to God. This morning in my Jesus time with God, I saw the word THY in bold block letters pop up before my eyes out of nowhere. Weird, huh?
I do not recall ever witnessing this before and my mind thought of THY kingdom and THY will. I realized in that moment that my prayers were to be to and about God. Not about Tom and the things on my plate. Next, I went to scriptures that I had posted many years ago where I captured “I give thanks to God.” on November 25, 2010. I felt the need to read the scriptures that led me to that conclusion then and today.
This previous affirmation had come from Hebrews 13:15 “Therefore by Him let us continually offer the sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of our lips, giving thanks to His name.” (NKJV) I captured what I thought was today’s affirmation to share as part of God’s daily bread. “I am continually offering up a sacrifice of praise to God through Jesus.”
Per my usual routine I read the surrounding scriptures for context. I was reminded that in Hebrews 13, the writer who modern scholars generally agree is a mystery, packs in some of our most memorable scriptures. Each verse is worthy and some we have heard over and over. Hebrew 13:1 states “Keep on loving one another as brothers and sisters.” (NIV) Hebrews 13:2 “Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by so doing some people have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it.” (NIV)
Hebrews 13:5 “Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” (NIV) Hebrews 13:6 “So we say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?”” (NIV) Hebrews 13:8 “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.” (NKJV)
Hebrews 13 also tells us that Jesus replaced the prior practice of sin offerings of animal blood, and He made us holy though this own blood. We can now offer modern day sacrifices of love, hospitality, contentment, peace, and praise. Hebrews 13:15 reminds us that the fruit of our lips is to give thanks to our God. These fruits sprout from hearts that are continually praising God.
Hebrews 13:6 provides a sacrifice all of us can do today. “And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.” (NIV) We can do good and share with others without making a bloody mess today, can’t we?
Praising God for who He is and boldly acting on the belief that He has made us complete to do His will each of us can proclaim “Thank You LORD for making me complete to do thy will.”
THY will LORD is all I seek, and I am praising You constantly through Jesus Christ who brings THY kingdom to earth. Will you offer a sacrifice of praise to God today?
Today’s Prayer: Heavenly Father, I am praising You and asking that Thy kingdom come and Thy will be done. Thank You for offering Your Son, Jesus Christ, to be our blood offering once and for all time. Thank You Jesus for dying for us. I am praying to honor You by praying and living as You taught us. Help us to complete thy will by continuously praising God. In Your Name Jesus we do pray. Amen.
