Today’s Scripture: Psalm 139:23, KJV- “Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts:”
Like David in Psalm 139:23-24, we must consciously ask God to know our hearts and thoughts. We must also ask God to identify our wicked ways and to lead us in His everlasting way.
This conversation with God is for our peace and benefit. Do you think God needs our invitation? I would say not. As David stated in 139:1, “For the director of music. Of David. A psalm. You have searched me, LORD, and you know me.” David acknowledges that God has already searched him and that He already knows him back in verse one. So, I am believing it takes us a while to let our guards and fears down so we can admit our anxieties to God.
This world tries to shame us for having anxieties. Let us be real, we all have them. Stop hiding them from God, ourselves, and others. We must turn to God and trust what He thinks about us instead of what those who stand against God think.
The ironic thing is that we often worry about what evil people think about us and in reality, they are not thinking about us at all. But David says that God’s thoughts about us outnumber the grains of sand.
From childhood through our adult lives, we are afraid to speak up because of the fear of what others may think or say about us. Where does this come from? Not from God. As Psalm 139:18 promises, God is always with us even though He knows everything about us.
Although we cannot logically understand it, we can accept Psalm 139:16, “You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed.” (NLT) We often lose faith because we cannot accept some of our days. LORD, why in the world would You not only allow, but order those days for us?
Just because God’s understanding is far beyond ours, we should not twist it and accept what others, who have no clue who we are, say about us only because it is logical. We must simply stop our thoughts and know one thing, as David did in Psalm 139:14, “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” (NIV) If we know full well, that God made us and ordered our days we have no room for the foolishness of human thought.
Regardless of where we are now or recalling any of our darkest days, we must trust God and have a conversation with Him. As David spoke, in Psalm 139:7, “Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence?” (NKJV) David also knew all of this was something we just cannot wrap our heads around. Psalm 139:6, “Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high, I cannot attain unto it.” (KJV)
Although we will never attain the understanding of God, we can trust Him. When we speak to God it is more for our benefit than His. Do You think God needs what we have to say? No, we need what we say to God. In fact, David said in Psalm 139:4 that, “You know what I am going to say even before I say it, LORD.” (NLT)
God already knows everything about us, and He is still with us and not shocked. We only need to speak to and trust our God. Will you speak to God and open all of yourself to Him now?
Today’s prayer: Heavenly Father, hallowed be thy name. Your understanding is too wonderful for me to understand. However I confess that I trust You with every single day of my life that You had ordered before I was even born. Search me, O God, and know my heart; try me and know my thoughts. Please remove my wickedness and lead me in Your everlasting way. Amen.
