Scripture Reference: Hebrews 3:7, NKJV- “Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says: “Today, if you will hear His voice,”
Hebrews 3:7 adds the big word “if” you will hear His voice. Job 33:14 states “For God speaks again and again, though people do not recognize it.” (NLT) Are we so distracted by our scrolling and other activities to recognize the voice of God?
Does the evil one steal, kill, and destroy our opportunities to hear God with too many screaming voices? We must silence voices that are not of God to listen to Jesus who John 10:10 tells us came so we may have life and have it more abundantly.
I have found that one way that I “hear” God’s voice in His Word. Hebrews 4:12 promises us that the word of God is alive and powerful. I should no longer be surprised yet I am constantly shocked that a random thought during my morning prayers is specifically spoken to when I rise and go to the Bible. The word of God is truly living and speaking.
Praying for God’s guidance this morning I reminded God of my need for a burning bush experience. He reminded me in Hebrews 3:1 that “Therefore, holy brothers and sisters, who share in the heavenly calling, fix your thoughts on Jesus, whom we acknowledge as our apostle and high priest.” (NIV) It occurred to me that I simply need to fix my thoughts on Jesus instead of looking for a burning bush or a response of my own creation.
Hebrews 3:4 reminded me that “God is the builder of everything.” (NIV) Therefore in everything we can hear God. In Hebrews 3:6 we learn that Christ is faithful as the Son over God’s house and if we hold on firmly to Him, we can be confident in our hope in Christ. The first affirmation I started to write today was “ We are confident in our hope in Christ.”
Reading the next verse, Hebrews 3:7, the Holy Spirit reminded me that we can be confident, in Christ, to hear God’s voice. This expectation puts all our senses on high alert and creates a desire to silence all other voices.
Hebrews 3:10 reminds us that God was angry with those who wandered in the desert with Moses because “They always go astray in their heart, and they have not known My ways.” If we expect to hear God today, we must not be distracted nor allow our hearts to go astray from His ways.
Hebrews 3:12 warns us, “Be careful then, dear brothers and sisters. Make sure that your own hearts are not evil and unbelieving, turning you away from the living God.” (NLT) Instead we can “encourage one another daily, as long as it is called “Today,” so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness.” ( Hebrews 3:13, NIV)
Hebrews 3:14 encourages us with “For we have become partakers of Christ if we hold the beginning of our confidence steadfast to the end.” (NKJV) Christ is our confidence. As Hebrew 3:15 instructs us we are not to harden our hearts if we hear His voice. Let us be obedient to what we hear.
Hebrews 3:19 reminds us “that those wondering the desert could not enter the promised land because of their unbelief.” Therefore, let us believe that we will hear God today. Let us take the time to shut out all other voices, ask Him to speak, and listen.

Today’s Prayer: Father God, the Great I AM who spoke to Moses in the burning bush I am praying to hear Your voice today. Thank You for the encouragement of others to silence voices I have allowed to compete with Your voice. Thank You for Your promises to answer us when we call on You. I am calling on You now LORD allow me to hear and know Your voice today. Amen.
