Today’s Scripture: Psalm 40:2, ESV- “He drew me up from the pit of destruction, out of the miry bog, and set my feet upon a rock, making my steps secure.”
Sometimes we do not know which way to go. We find ourselves at a crossroads. I read Jeremiah 6:16 this morning that states “This is what the LORD says: “Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls. But you said, ‘We will not walk in it.’”
I bounced all over the Old and New Testaments this morning without being settled on the message He was granting as our daily bread. We can complicate and overthink things. The first direction in Jeremiah 6:16 was to simply look around. When we get out of our heads and look around many times our next step becomes clear.
The good news is whichever way we step, Psalm 40:2 reminds us of where our security comes from. If we ask and seek God’s direction, we can trust Him. As you look around what and who do you see?
Sometimes we may recognize someone or even the same bog we once found ourselves. God can use us to help move someone to a safer place. We cannot be security for others, but we can share God’s security.
Whether we are currently in the pit of destruction ourselves or can see someone who is, it is God who sets our feet upon His rock and makes our steps secure. Jeremiah 6:17 says “Listen to the sound of the trumpet!” Are we listening to the sounds and voices around us? Just as in the days of Jeremiah there are disasters all around us caused by a people who will not listen to God’s words and have rejected His laws.
Psalm 40:3 says that the LORD puts a new song in our mouths, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear the LORD and put their trust in Him because of the songs and security He has given us. We can trust the LORD with our paths and the paths of others.
Like David here in Psalm 40:8, we must only desire to do God’s will and keep His laws within our hearts. As we tell others how God has saved us, His love and faithfulness will protect us all.
LORD, come quickly to help us for You are great and You are our only security.
Today’s Prayer: Almighty LORD, thank You for hearing and delivering us. Please keep our eyes and hearts open to You and those we may direct to You for security. Help us to sing our new song by telling others of Your Greatness and what You have done for us. I am trusting You LORD for others to find hope and security. You are our help and our deliverer and in You our steps are secure. Amen
