Thank You LORD for directing us.

Today’s Scripture: Psalm 119:35, NIV- “Direct me in the path of your commands, for there I find delight.”

Are there so many signs directing our lives that we lose sight of the landscape? It does not matter how long we have been driving the signs are still there to protect and guide us all. When we fail to follow the signs, we endanger ourselves and those around us. When we all are following the signs, we travel safely.

Earlier this week I was being assisted by a friend on a project for Affirmations of God. As we were setting up and completing our work, I had one of my mother’s bibles with me. I flipped the bible open, and it fell to Psalm 119.

Psalm 119 is the longest chapter in the entire bible with 176 verses. Haven fallen open here I began to read beginning in 119:33. Today’s affirmations come from less than ten of those. After years of capturing affirmations of God this is the way I now naturally read God’s commands.

I re-phrase what I am reading into a statement God is directing to me. It seems that every time I go, no matter where the Bible falls open, God meets me there and speaks what I need to hear. I do not need to put the signs up, they simply appear along the roads or where we are.

I wrote out affirmations that spoke to my heart and met me right where I was. Psalm 119:33 welcomed me and directed me with “Teach me, LORD, the way of your decrees, that I may follow it to the end.” (NIV) God was teaching me in that moment. To go the way of our LORD’s decrees, we must know them. We can follow God’s decrees to the end. Therefore, I affirmed “Teach me, O LORD, to follow Your decrees.”

I kept scribbling:

LORD, I am following Your decrees. (Psalm 119:33)

LORD, I am keeping Your decrees to the end. (Psalm 119:33)

Thank You LORD for giving me understanding. (Psalm 119:34)

I am keeping the LORD’s laws. (Psalm 119:34)

LORD, I am obeying Your laws with all my heart. (Psalm 119:34)

Thank You LORD for directing me in the path of Your commands. (Psalm 119:35)

I am finding delight in the LORD’s commands. (Psalm 119:35)

LORD, I am finding delight in Your commands. (Psalm 119:35)

Thank You LORD for turning my heart towards Your commands. (Psalm 119:36)

Thank You LORD for turning my eyes away from worthless things. (Psalm 119:37)

Thank You LORD for preserving my life with Your WORD. (Psalm 119:37)

I am fulfilling my promise. (Psalm 119:38)

Thank You LORD for fulfilling Your promises in me. (119:38)

LORD, please fulfill Your promises in me. (119:38)

I am a servant of the LORD. (119:38)

Thank You LORD for taking the disgrace that I dread. (119:39)

I am finding the goodness of God in His laws. (119:39)

I am longing for the precepts of the LORD. (119:40)

The unfailing love of the LORD is coming to me. (119:41)

The laws and signs of the LORD are here for us. As we travel, we must be aware of God’s signs and trust that He is directing us. We must only pay attention and read His laws. We must never become complacent or think we have already read the signs before.

God’s Word, His commands, are here for us today. We must simply show up and read His Word and He is faithful and good to direct us in His ways. Are you reading His signs?

Today’s prayer: LORD, thank You for directing us with Your commands. I do find delight in Your laws. Thank You for granting us understanding. Help us to obey Your laws with all our hearts. Please turn our hearts with Your commands today and every day. Thank You, LORD, for turning our eyes to You and away from worthless things. LORD, please fulfill Your promises in us. Thank You for Your unfailing love that comes to us and opens our eyes and hearts to You. Thank You LORD for our daily bread and direction. Amen.
