Today’s Scripture: Psalm 68:34, KJV- “Ascribe ye strength unto God: his excellency is over Israel, and his strength is in the clouds.”
Ascribing our strength means that we acknowledge and recognize the source of our strength. I know that the God of heaven, the God of Israel, is my strength and my salvation.
The power of daily prayer is empowering. Jesus taught us to ask for our daily bread. It has been my experience that our God is faithful to feed us and give us the strength and power we need to do His will.
This morning, I recognized the need to silence myself to receive God’s will for this day After all, Psalm 139:16 tells us that God has already written down each day of our lives in His book. So, I simply asked God to help me do what He had planned for me today. I am realizing His power will put before me the things I am to do. I do not need to understand, I just need to do it.
After my prayers I jumped into Week 1 Day 3 groundwork study of re: generation to see what scriptures God had planned for me today. The key scripture was Psalm 68:19 so I began to read all of Psalm 68 for God’s daily bread.
From the recovery lesson standpoint, I was reminded of how each day is made up of very intense moments when we are seeking to do God’s will. After eighteen years of sobriety, I tend to forget how God’s power showed up in my weakest moments. I am thanking God now for that first moment He helped me.
Most people think of sobriety as being about drugs and alcohol. However, I have found that most people in recovery meetings are there for other things they know are destroying their peace. Every person walking this earth today has something they need to be sober of. Are you neglecting others or yourself due to fear, work, eating habits, sexual lust, anger, people-pleasing, pride, spending habits, or other things?
Whatever our thorn in the flesh is we need God’s power in the decisive moments. Only God’s will can overpower our will. Psalm 68:19 “Blessed be the Lord, Who daily loads us with benefits, The God of our salvation! Selah” (NKJV) As Selah means, let us take a moment, as God had me do this morning, to pause and marinate on that thought for a moment.
I have told the story hundreds of times of how the words of a young man in an AA meeting changed my life. He said his life had been forever changed because he hit his knees every morning and thanked God for keeping him sober yesterday and asked Him to keep him sober today. This guy had put into practice this Psalm. We all face daily battles, and we only win them one day at a time. On my first day of sobriety, I could not have imagined the power of God I would find.
All lives are changed one day at a time. Within each day we all face moments where we need the power of God. We must acknowledge that God is our hope and our strength. We find that Psalm 68:20 proves true “Our God is a God of deliverance; the Lord GOD is our rescuer from death.” (BSB)
We can call on and proclaim the power of God in our moments of weakness. When we welcome the will and power of the God of Heaven, we quickly learn that He is the God of the here and now. We can lift our voices as in Psalm 68:35 “O God, You are more awesome than Your holy places. The God of Israel is He who gives strength and power to His people. Blessed be God!” (NKJV)
Will you call on God for strength and power in your moment of truth today?
Today’s Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for Your power and strength. I am pausing to welcome Your will. I am acknowledging that You are the God of my salvation, strength, and power. In You LORD I am living this moment. Amen.
