Today’s Scripture: Luke 17:16, ESV- “and he fell on his face at Jesus’ feet, giving him thanks. Now he was a Samaritan.”
I was reminded this morning to return to the feet of Jesus and give Him thanks as fervently as I cry out for His help. I recalled Luke 17 where the one leper, out of ten, turned back to Jesus to thank Him and glorify God with a loud voice.
I am praying that Jesus remembers me for returning to Him versus being one who did not fall at His feet and thank Him. God, I am praising You with a loud voice. God, thank You for being faithful when my faith is weak. As the Apostles said to Jesus in Luke 17:5, I am saying Lord, increase my faith!
I do believe I can muster enough faith as small as a mustard seed as Jesus shared with His apostles. We can give God the faith we do have. Although we are unworthy servants, we must do our duty as Jesus tells us we should do in Luke 17:10. Our duty is to glorify God in all things.
Luke begins the story of the ten lepers in Luke 17:12. These men cried out, Jesus, Master, have mercy on us in Luke 17:13. I believe we have all cried this out to the LORD. Something always stands out to me regarding Luke 17:14. “as they went, they were cleansed.”
How many times in our lives and days do we think we must be healed or cleansed before we can go where Jesus is telling us to go? We, like these lepers, will be cleansed as we go where Jesus is telling us to go. Let us simply keep going in the faith Jesus has given us.
Luke 17:15 tells us that “And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, returned, and with a loud voice glorified God.” (NKJV) Do we recognize the healing we have received? Do we glorify God for our cleansing? How loudly do we praise God and give Him the credit?
Luke made a point in Luke 17:16 to let us know that the one who returned and threw himself at Jesus’ feet to thank Him was a Samaritan. The Samaritans were considered outsiders and looked down upon by the Jewish people. Jesus makes a point to remove human-caused social barriers.
We can all fall at Jesus’ feet and thank Him that He is healing us as we are going about our lives. As Jesus said to the Samaritan in Luke 17:19, we are to rise and go and our faith will make us well. We are also to have faith that the Kingdom of God is within us just as Jesus told the Pharisees in Luke 17:21.
As we go where Jesus is telling us to go, we experience healing and the Kingdom of God. Whether we can see it or not, we should start every day falling on our faces at Jesus’ feet to thank Him and lifting our praises to God. This is what I want Jesus to remember about me. How about you?
Today’s Prayer: Jesus, I am falling at Your feet and thanking You for our cleansing. I am glorifying God with my loudest voice. Thank You LORD for healing us as we go about the lives You are directing us into. Thank You Holy Spirit for reminding us to return to Jesus to thank Him for the healing He has given us. We will continue to fall to the ground in thanksgivings and praise as we welcome Your kingdom and will that are within us. In the cleansing name of Jesus Christ we do pray. Amen.
