Today’s Scripture: Proverbs 1:7, KJV- “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.”
At our core, everything begins with the right foundation and relationship with our Creator. How we approach and understand life comes from the LORD who created life. We are instructed in Proverbs 1:7 that the fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge.
Do we approach God to learn, or do we approach Him to make sure He is aware of our wishes? The proper starting point is to approach God with the appropriate fear; the awe, reverence, and worship He alone is worthy. As we read God’s Word, we must look and listen to learn His wisdom and instruction. When we humbly confess and glorify God’s majesty and power we are standing on a firm foundation and an open door to the wisdom above all human capability.
Modern societies crumble when the foundation is the reliance on the intellectual pursuits of mere humans. The LORD does not need our insights, we require His wisdom. Quite frankly we can see, if we care to look, the results of lives built on foundations without fear of the LORD. The arrogance and vitriol of human intelligence can be disheartening. However, when we pause and begin our days with an open slate before God and welcome His wisdom and instruction, we begin to receive a knowledge the material matter of the human brain cannot conceive.
We must listen. We must shut off our own voices and any other sounds preventing us from hearing God’s instruction and teaching. Do we really think we can teach God anything? The arrogance of the human spirit knows no boundaries until it is painfully obvious. The proof or fruits that come from human nature can be spoiled.
For those who are choosing to fear the LORD we must live Proverbs 1:10, “My child, when sinners tempt you, don’t give in.” (GWT) The shallow promises of worldly possessions are in a separate stratosphere than the riches of God.
When we begin with God and live with Him, we can keep our feet from the paths of the ungodly as we are advised in Proverbs 1:15. The path of God does not rush towards evil as does the loading ramp of the human spirit. Proverbs 1:19 warns us against being greedy for gain because it takes away our lives.
When we live our lives in the fear of the LORD and seek His knowledge and will, we live the fullest of lives. God and His wisdom are not hidden from us. As Proverbs 1:20 points out, “Wisdom shouts in the streets. She cries out in the public square.” (NLT)
If we will only listen and stop our cries for the world to hear us. The world does not need what we have to say. The world will always need the wisdom of God. Proverbs 1:23 promises that if we turn to God’s Wisdom, she will pour out her spirit on us and make her words known to us.
Wisdom, I am listening to you. I love your knowledge, and I am choosing to fear the LORD. I am accepting your advice and paying attention to your correction. I am asking you, Wisdom, to fill me and overwhelm my own thoughts. I am turning now to listen to Your voice over any other voices.
Today’s Prayer: Heavenly Father, I am asking for Your wisdom. Please allow me to hear wisdom over all other noises. I am listening to her cries. Guide me Father God with Your wisdom so that I fulfill Your will and share Your kingdom with others. You LORD are all that I fear. In the wisdom of Jesus Christ we do pray. Amen.
