Today’s Scripture: James 4:8 NASB: Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.
What does drawing near to God look, taste, smell, or feel like to you? Have you tried to get partially close to God? James 4:8 is firm: “Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.”
Do you feel close to God right now? When we do not feel close is it because we have been double-minded? Trying to be close to God AND other things?
Instead of seeking closeness with God are we seeking to be closer to our worldly pleasures and lusts? James warns us of focusing more on our pleasures than on God.
God does not wish for us a life devoid of pleasure but desires we know His greater pleasures. I have found that if I follow James 4:10 and humble myself and pray, God does lift me up. He lifts me to Himself where I find greater pleasure.
Will you draw closer to God or something else today?
Today’s Prayer: LORD, I humbly ask Your forgiveness for my chasing after my pleasures instead of Your will. Thank you for drawing near to me when I draw near to you. I am thankful Your grace is greater than my worldly pleasures. Thank You for allowing me to see Your light above this darkened world. In You LORD I have greater pleasure. Amen
