Today’s Scripture: 3 John 1:2, ESV- “Beloved, I pray that all may go well with you and that you may be in good health, as it goes well with your soul.”
3 John was written “ To my dear friend Gaius, whom I love in the truth.” (NIV) The Apostle John was writing to a church member of an unnamed church who provided hospitality towards those helping to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ. In 3 John 1:5 John said to Gaius “you do faithfully whatever you do.” (NKJV)
You and I are called to do the same. No one ever needs to know our name or what church we attend. We must only do faithfully whatever we do to serve the gospel of Christ. We should show love and support to everyone in their “ministry.” Our ministries are not defined by what others think but by the love of God in our heart.
Doing good does not always look the same and can come from some unexpected people and places. Just yesterday as I was putting away some items on a top shelf, I accidentally knocked a cherished gift from Ken, a dear friend that I love, to the ground. I quickly fixed it and hung it back on the wall.
This morning after asking my Heavenly Father for the daily bread He willed for me to share, I scanned my list of affirmations for the prompting of the Spirit. My eyes and my heart were drawn to 3 John 1:2 that I had captured but never posted, “It is well with my soul.”
I chuckled at the “coincidence” that the gift that I had knocked off the wall is a framed music sheet entitled “It is Well” by Jeremy and Adrienne Camp. Overlayed on the sheet are the words “It is well with my soul.”
Listening to the song, I know that peace does flow like a river and does attend to my way when I live in the truth. It is well with my soul when I sing praises to God. Many times, in our sorrows or whatever our lot in this life is, this is where we find the wellness of our souls by giving whatever we have. My friend may or may not think that his gifts to others are a ministry, but they are.
3 John 1:11 tells us “Dear friend, do not imitate what is evil but what is good. Anyone who does what is good is from God. Anyone who does what is evil has not seen God.” (NIV) When we love God, we know what is good. When we give what is good to others, more people see God and come to know the truth of the gospel.
What do you do for others that makes everything well with your soul?
Today’s Prayer: Heavenly Father I praise Your holy name. Thank You LORD for the gospel of Jesus Christ that Your apostles have brought to us. May we support all our brothers and sisters who bring us Your truth. Thank You Father God for bringing people into our lives to encourage our ministries and help us to encourage others from what You have placed in our souls. In the name of Jesus, we do pray. Amen.
