Today’s Scripture: And the Holy Spirit helps us in our distress. For we don’t even know what we should pray for, nor how we should pray. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings what cannot be expressed in words. Romans 8:36 NLT Tyndale
Freedom, do you feel it? Freedom from self and all others. Lord, help me shut up. Do you ever have that conversation with yourself or is it just me? Running has become a time when I commune with the Spirit. As I was running I try to communicate deep in the dwelling of the Spirit.
I am finding this is an acquired gift set. How can I be still and quiet in the spirit if I am busy telling Him I am being quiet. Am I too busy saying be still to be still? Am I too busy asking and talking to allow the Spirit to work? A. I don’t think I can or will prevent the Holy Spirit from working and B. I am learning from the Spirit my tongue is not necessary.
Again this morning, I am hurried. I missed a couple of days of writing and I really don’t have time today. This world loves nothing better than to squeeze out our communing with God. Guess what, the Holy Spirit prays for us. It is freeing to know that as we kneel, as we pray, that we don’t know what or how to pray but just rest and let the groaning of the Holy Spirit take place.
Can we be still and quiet long enough to hear the groaning? What a beautiful sound this groaning must be. I long to hear this groaning. Have you heard it?
Today’s Prayer: Father God, thank You for Your Spirit. I know You hear His groaning for me. I trust fully You and Your Spirit and what You desire for and through me. I welcome the groaning of the Holy Spirit and am filled with You. Amen

Tom, It is definitely hard for me to just sit still at times and allow the Holy Spirit to lead my thoughts. I love that you said the “Holy Spirit prays for us” I never looked at it that way, but there is no doubt that he wants what is best for us and for us to settle into Gods purpose for us…So He must pray for us and I would venture that He praises us when take the Godly steps we were meat to take.
Thanks and God bless,
Michael
For sure Michael. Isn’t it comforting to know He is praying for us. We can relax and just enjoy God and His Spirit knowing His will will be done!
This is encouraging…. especially during the times when I don’t know what to say.
We can just focus on being in His presence instead of trying to think what to say! We can be still and know that He is God. Thanks Dustin!
I don’t mind Him praying for me at all. In fact, I prefer that since He knows my heart and the heart of the Father.
Great point, He knows so much more and so much that is purposeful!
The next verse says: “for the Spirit pleads for us believers in harmony with God’s own will.” Not only does the Holy Spirit pray for us, the Spirit prays in accordance with God’s will – a perfect prayer for All believers! How Awesome is that?
I have missed writing for a couple of days Tom. Life gets busy at times but never too busy for the Holy Spirit!
Never too busy! Thanks Kimberly you said it so well…is there any better place than the center of His will?!!
Great post Tom,
Richard Foster says that the enemy of our souls majors in three things: muchness, manyness, and hurry! These things so often take me away from prayer.
Thanks for reminding me I need to just wait and let Him direct my prayer.
Thanks jelillie! He can do so much more in the time we give Him when we let him fill it instead of us…hmmm. Thanks for the Richard Foster quote! I enjoyed his “discipline” book.
