Today’s Scripture: Ezekiel 7:4 NLT Tyndale: I will turn my eyes away and show no pity, repaying you in full for all your evil. Then you will know that I am the LORD!
Five times in chapters 6-11 of Ezekiel the LORD says and THEN the people of Israelwould know that “I am the LORD”. And in these five instances it was NOT a good thing but because of the devastation He was putting on them for, among other things:
- Serving detestable idols
- Having unfaithful hearts
- Having lustful eyes longing for other gods
- Having disgusting behavior
- Having a love of money that made them stumble into sin
Ezekiel was given these visions so He could go and tell everything the LORD had shown him. At least twice the LORD asked Ezekiel “Have you seen this”.
Have we seen this? Sure, we see it everywhere. Those that the LORD spares in these few passages were two different groups.
First, there were those who were weeping and sighing because of the sins they see around them. Shouldn’t our hearts be breaking for our society today? God says in these verses He sees everything that is going on and even knows all of our thoughts. Shouldn’t we be found distraught about how detestable things are?
Most importantly, God says HE is a sanctuary for us. Like the Israelites who returned to Him of old, He has given us a singleness of heart and put a new spirit in us. Because of His Spirit we obey His laws and WE WILL TRULY BE HIS PEOPLE AND HE WILL BE OUR GOD.
May we know He is LORD because of the Spirit He has put into us and may we tell everything He tells us that will share the hope and the better life in Him.
Today’s Prayer: LORD, I praise You and You are my only God. Forgive me for my detestable practices and for my disgusting behavior. Thank You for forgiving me and please give me strength to only seek You and to tell everyone what you show me. Thank You for Your love and Your Spirit. I truly want to be Yours and profess You as my only God. Amen
