Today’s Scripture: 1 Thessalonians 5:17, KJV- “Pray without ceasing.”
God, please teach me to pray without ceasing. In 1 Thessalonians 4:1 Paul wrote “As for other matters, brothers and sisters, we instructed you how to live in order to please God, as in fact you are living. Now we ask you and urge you in the Lord Jesus to do this more and more.” (NIV)
I desire to live every day pleasing God. To do this more I must first seek to know what pleases Him. Paul promised us in 1 Thessalonians 5:10 “Christ died for us so that, whether we are dead or alive when he returns, we can live with him forever.” (NLT) Do you want to live with Christ forever?
If we desire to live with Christ forever, it begins by turning to Him every moment. We need each other to stay on track. As 1 Thessalonians 5:11 instructs us we can “Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing.” (ESV)
We all need encouragement because life is not easy. Things happen every day what we do not understand, and we cannot see God in them. However, Paul encourages us in 1 Thessalonians 5:15 “See that no one renders evil for evil to anyone, but always pursue what is good both for yourselves and for all.” (NKJV)
I am thankful for those God brings into our lives that make us stop going down wrong paths and redirects us back to what is good. I know that I need a wake-up call from time to time to turn away and pursue good instead of wasting time of giving my unwanted opinion in response to what I perceive as evil on social media.
My two cents will not change the world, but the ways of Christ have changed the world forever. Our lives are so much happier and fulfilling when we pursue what is good. Praying to our God, the Author of good, puts us in the best place mentally, physically, and spiritually. In fact. 1 Thessalonians 5:16 “Rejoice always.” (NKJV) is only possible when we turn to God always.
Paul instructs how we can pray without ceasing in 1 Thessalonians 5:18 that “in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” (NKJV) As we give thanks and read God’s Word, we can hold onto what is good as we are told in 1 Thessalonians 5:21.
LORD, thank You for waking me up this morning. Thank you for the breath in my lungs. Thank You for the rhythm of my heart. Thank You for the people You have brought into my life to walk closer with You today. Help me LORD to live and pray with You today without ceasing.
Today’s Prayer: Father God, thank You for giving us prayer so we can commune with You. Thank You for Your Spirit that lives within us. LORD, I am praying to do what pleases You more and more. Help me LORD to pray without ceasing and live from Your Word always. In the name of Jesus Christ we pray, Amen.
